Royal Free Charity is seeking an ambitious, self-motivated, and experienced Trusts Manager to join their newly formed Philanthropic Partnerships Team, which will play a pivotal role in developing and delivering a new fundraising strategy.

  • Location: Initially home working with a mix of home/office based at the Pears Building at the Royal Free London in Hampstead
  • Salary: £35,000 - £40,000

About the role

This role sits within a high achieving Fundraising team, divided into three departments: Philanthropic Partnerships, Individual Giving, and Community Fundraising. The Trusts Manager will report to the Head of Philanthropic Partnerships. This is a hugely exciting time to join The Royal Free Charity as they develop a new case for support, and fundraising appeal, which will launch a new organisational brand.

We are looking for an experienced Trusts Manager who has demonstrable success building a portfolio and securing 5-figure+ donations. You will need to be a highly skilled writer, who is able to proactively build relationships with new trust contacts.

As Trusts Manager you will need to be attuned to the sensitivities of senior relationships and excited by the prospect of networking and representing the charity externally, utilising connections through trustees, staff, and hospital colleagues. Outstanding written, verbal and communication skills are essential to negotiate, influence and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities of the role

Donor relationships:

  • To maximise engagement with charitable trusts, foundations and statutory bodies by account managing a portfolio of £10k-£100k donors to deliver income according to targets.
  • To deliver high quality proposals and ad hoc support for the Head of Philanthropic Partnerships and Exec Director of Income Generation to enable them to account manage higher value trusts, foundations, and statutory bodies at all levels.
  • To maintain ongoing engagement plans for priority donors and prepare internal briefing notes, prospect research and other documents to equip colleagues to engage with donors effectively and build meaningful relationships.

Writing: 

  • To deliver high quality thanking, proposals and reports for major donors and corporate supporters, in response to briefs from the Head of Philanthropic Partnerships and Executive Director of Income Generation.
  • To support the Head of Philanthropic Partnerships by drafting key correspondence, such as thank you letters and updates.
  • To work with the comms team to develop a suite of tailored quotes and case studies for use in proposals and other supporter communications.
  • To contribute to the development of our organisational tone of voice and ensure all work is in line with the brand.
  • To work with a designer to create and maintain branded templates for proposals and reports.

Planning & strategy:

  • To develop a targeted list of trusts prospects with the potential to give up to £100,000 to approach and develop plans for reaching and engaging them.
  • To support the Head of Philanthropic Partnerships with budget development, monitoring and reporting.
  • To contribute to ongoing team strategy development.
