Trustees Army Benevolent Fund

The Army Benevolent Fund is seeking new Trustees to help strengthen the charity that provides soldiers, veterans and their families lifelong support.

  • Location: Online / London
  • Salary: Reasonable expenses paid - approx 1 day a month commitment
  • Closing date: 9 a.m. Friday 18th September

Who we are

The Army Benevolent Fund (ABF) is the Army’s national charity. Founded in 1944, our purpose is to provide a lifetime of support to serving soldiers, former soldiers, and their families when they are in need, ensuring they can avoid hardship and enjoy independence and dignity.

Over the past four years, the charity has embarked on an ambitious plan to restructure and refocus the organisation to make it fit for the future.

More recently, the charity has reviewed its approach to fundraising. With the fundraising department now restructured, combined with a strategy to ensure sustainable growth, this is an exciting moment for new Trustees to join the Army Benevolent Fund.

About the roles

We are looking to engage 2 – 3 new Trustees.

Marketing/Digital Trustee (Main Board and FRMC)

As Marketing/Digital Trustee, you will bring senior marketing leadership to the Board and to the Fundraising and Marketing Committee (FRMC), helping the charity grow its reach, reputation and income.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing strategic oversight of marketing effectiveness, brand and reputation.
  • Guiding audience engagement, communications and stakeholder relationships.
  • Advising on digital marketing, digital transformation and emerging channels.
  • Supporting income growth through a stronger profile and deeper supporter engagement.

Through this work, you will help the charity reach more of the people who can support its mission, so that soldiers, veterans and their families continue to receive help when they need it, for life.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for a senior marketing leader from a commercial or charity background, with strong expertise in brand, audience engagement and communications, ideally including digital marketing, digital transformation and emerging channels.

Investment Trustee (Main Board and Finance and Investment Committee)

As Investment Trustee, you will join the Board and the Finance and Investment Committee, bringing senior investment expertise to the stewardship of the charity’s reserves and long-term financial health.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Offering informed challenge and advice on investment strategy and reserves management.
  • Helping oversee financial sustainability, risk and governance.
  • Contributing to fiduciary decisions with independence and sound judgement.
  • Supporting the Board’s wider financial stewardship.

Your guidance will help safeguard the reserves and financial resilience that make the charity’s lifelong support sustainable, both now and for the future.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone with senior experience in investment management, institutional investing or investment banking, able to offer informed challenge on investment strategy and reserves, ideally with committee experience and an understanding of fiduciary responsibilities.

Commercial/Business Trustee (Main Board)

As Commercial/Business Trustee, you will bring executive or board-level commercial leadership to the Board, offering an external perspective on the charity’s strategy, operating model and long-term performance.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Bringing commercial insight to strategy, planning and organisational performance
  • Supporting sustainable growth and the effective use of resources
  • Contributing across governance, risk and long-term sustainability
  • Providing constructive challenge and support to the executive team

Your experience will help the charity run as effectively and sustainably as possible, strengthening the organisation that stands behind its support for the whole Army family.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for an executive or board-level commercial leader with a strong record of business growth and strategic planning, able to bring an external commercial perspective to the charity’s strategy and operating model.

The time commitment for all roles will be approximately one day per month.
