Welcome Message from the Chair Paul Groves

Dear Candidates,

Sulets is an educational charity based in Leicester which has developed an enviable position as the go-to place for students looking for accommodation in the city.

Sulets markets, lets and manages accommodation for students studying at University of Leicester and De Montfort University. To deliver that service we have a team of committed professionals who have the skills, knowledge and expertise required to ensure our tenants and landlords are well looked after.

Our Property Management team keeps landlords up to date with relevant legislation and ensures standards of safety, security and cleanliness are met. Our negotiators provide our student tenants with appropriate accommodation options and give them the chance to ask questions and check details in a non-pressurised way, with honesty and clarity.

At the heart of Sulets in the drive to ensure safe, quality, cost-effective accommodation for the students of the two local universities. We will only represent good quality property, work with reliable landlords, all of which ensures we set a benchmark for student accommodation. Having done this now for several years very successfully it is time to take Sulets to the next level. We are in the process of using our balance sheet to build our own portfolio of property. With the intent to ensure we set a benchmark for value and quality to have our own properties provide the vehicle to take this to the next level. The first properties have been recently acquired.

Whilst maintaining key links to both universities the Board has been adding specific commercial and legal experience to the team to support this growth trajectory. The role we seek to fill here looks to add to the current team which I have to say is doing an exceptional job. It is an extremely exciting time to join the Board as we transition into a very different world especially in light of the recent pandemic. I do hope you will be keen to join us on this journey.

Thanks

Paul Groves

Chair

Sulets

Sulets is a charitable company limited by guarantee and was established with the principle aim of providing high quality and affordable homes for students in Leicester. With a Board consisting of the two Student Unions, along with key University staff and external experts, we operate as a lettings agent providing access to a range of accommodation in various areas throughout the city. We’re dedicated to providing the best housing options, from student halls to private properties, as well as offering independent advice operating from our base at De Montfort Students’ Union.

We have developed our own Code of Standards for private sector housing to increase the quality and standard in those properties and delivered innovative models to offer an inclusive package of accommodation and utility costs in Private Rented Sector housing in Leicester.

We aim to:

  • Support students by offering good quality housing options
  • Raise standards in the Private Rented Sector
  • Support the two Leicester Universities and their Students’ Unions and deliver high quality housing for the Leicester student accommodation market.

We have made surpluses year on year and built up good reserves which we are now looking to invest to support the growth of our organisation and continue to be able to respond to the strong demand for our services. Last year we housed approximately 2, 200 students.

We have been accredited with the prestigious Gold Award from the Investors in People (IIP), recognising that our organisation values and invests in the development of its people. This recognition is particularly important for us as our not-for-profit status means we set high standards and pride ourselves on delivering a trusted and honest service.
