Dear Candidate,

West London College FE recruitment for Deputy Principal

Thank you for your interest in the role of Principal at Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College (branded as West London College).

Since the FE Commissioner’s initial assessment visit in August 2018, West London College has achieved much progress in a relatively short period of time. This has led to increasing confidence from the intervention agencies as well as making significant and important progress in strengthening the college’s financial position. In January 2019, we agreed a clear and relevant recovery plan with our board and the intervention agencies and, whilst there remain some challenges ahead, we are making great progress against that plan.

We are a relatively new, ambitious and talented senior leadership team that passionately believes there is much unrealised potential and we are determined to transform ourselves into one of the leading colleges in the capital.

We are now seeking an exceptional individual to join our senior leadership team to help us to shape, deliver and secure an exciting future for our students, staff, employers and communities. You will need to be bold and ambitious and have the courage to drive a challenging agenda. You will also need to have high level skills and the ability to operate in a difficult market place, securing the support and commitment of key strategic stakeholders. You will need to be resilient and relentless in your pursuit for the continuous improvement of standards, student outcomes, organisational effectiveness and financial stability. This role will provide a strong and ambitious leader with significant career prospects and the opportunity to make a major contribution to the educational, economic and employment landscape of the nation’s capital city.

We have an exciting estates strategy that has already seen the opening of two brand new and industry-standard construction centres, located in prime positions in West London, poised to take advantage of major infrastructure developments.  We have also been awarded the prestigious and coveted Mayor’s Construction Academy Scheme kitemark, one of only seven hubs in the capital.

Our estates strategy will also see the complete refurbishment of our Southall Community College campus, with partial sale of estate to strengthen the college’s cash balances as well as creating a capital investment fund for the future.  The Hammersmith and Fulham College campus will undergo demolition replaced by a brand new, purpose-built and state of the art facility that will also be achieved through partial sale of existing estate resulting in no borrowing.

The West London area is a safe and vibrant part of the capital, known for its culture and the arts. West London is a major business hub for the UK economy, and the base for a number of nationally important and global blue-chip companies, including Heathrow Airport, Wembley, BBC, White City, Westfield (the biggest shopping mall in Europe), Olympia, Coca Cola and Walt Disney to name but a few.

If you are excited by these prospects and think there is a good fit between our requirements and your abilities and ambition, then we would love to hear from you!

Yours sincerely,

Karen Redhead
Chief Executive & Principal

Improving lives through education, training, skills and development

West London College is committed to meeting the needs of its students and stakeholders, through collaboration and innovation across its curriculum and student services.

The college is a large general and further education college with five main campuses at Hammersmith, Ealing, Southall, Park Royal and the West London Construction Academy. The college covers 12 miles across West London and enjoys a positive relationship with both of its respective local authorities: Ealing and Hammersmith & Fulham.

In 2017, the college was graded ‘Good’ by Ofsted and internal self-assessment assessment continues to report a realistic view of the quality of teaching, learning and assessment. Courses are offered in most subject sector areas, with the significant majority being those up to, and including, level two.

West London College is open, welcoming and supportive. Their commitment to equality and diversity underpins everything they do

The college intends to build on its emerging specialisms, particularly around construction and the built environment – a unique partnership between Berkeley and the West London Construction Academy has been awarded the Mayors’ Construction Academy kite-mark for the quality of provision. Through the positive relationships with the two major London boroughs, increased 14-16 and High Needs student numbers are highly likely due to exceptional student experience provided at the college.
