The Senior Development Manager will use their considerable expertise and experience to raise resources to support the end of FGC. You will be influencing, engaging with existing or new donors, managing the day-to-day relationships or further developing our systems for systematic reporting. You will bring to our team knowledge, excitement and a proven track record for achieving change. You will be an excellent writer who can clearly articulate complex issues such as ending FGC to a range of audiences.
This position provides a fantastic opportunity for enabling the organisation to grow; and, more importantly, supporting the community of organisations dedicated to ending FGC to facilitate change globally. You will be part of our senior leadership team, and you will lead a successful fundraising team which seeks new and innovative partnerships, to ensure FGC is given priority, scaled and communicated.
You will be able to forge relationships with our existing donors and be creative about building new ones with institutional investors and foundations. You will either have experience in innovative financing models or be keen to learn about this. You will be devising and delivering a new fundraising strategy to complement our new three-year organisational strategy.
This role will suit someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and who is able quickly to manage our existing work on fundraising from private individuals while growing our funding base to include institutional investors and philanthropic institutions. You will be expected to lead a small team to deliver these goals, collaborate closely with our CEO and other staff members as appropriate. You will be an inspirational line manager and team-player. Every year, 3.9 million girls are cut as a result of the practice. We are a small but growing and dynamic charity with a proven track record of delivering programmes, advocacy and communications to end FGC.
This post is of great significance for us as we move to the next phase of our organisation with our new strategy. We are building the evidence to end the practice, strengthening the sector to attract resources and commitments, and working in partnership with organisations in practicing countries. We want to scale our work. This requires finding new types of funders and institutional donors who will help us deliver our strategy.
Orchid Project has a track record of success since we were established in 2011. We are now looking for somebody with the skills and experience to raise funds for the organisation so we can grow and support a significant reduction in the number of girls who are being cut every year. This means that we need to achieve scale on our three areas of work:
You will be reporting directly to me and working closely with all our teams. You will take responsibility for designing and implementing our fundraising strategy. You will help us move from an organisation that mainly had funding from private individuals and smaller foundations to focus more on institutional donors. This requires stronger reporting structures and client management in addition to raising new funds. You will be an excellent writer and can also support others in writing clearly about programmatic progress.
We are looking for someone who is keen to lead our fundraising efforts and will be part of our senior leadership team. We are a nimble, effective and passionate team. We thrive on partnerships and are open and transparent in our behaviours. We are seeking a team player, and someone with a positive outlook and drive for making a difference for girls and women.
Working for a smaller charity presents both opportunities and challenges. You need to take your job seriously, with the composure and experience to navigate complexity and yet be able to laugh at absurdity. No two days are the same, and we expect you to be an experienced professional who thrives in a constantly evolving environment.

You do not necessarily need prior experience fundraising for women’s rights in the global context, however, we do need a senior professional who is measured, composed, and driven.
