NEBOSH seeks an inspirational and innovative Chief Executive. Using strong commercial and transformation experience, and outstanding people skills, you will lead us in continuing to make a difference to health, safety and environmental management in workplaces worldwide.

  • Salary: Highly competitive six figure salary (commensurate with a position of this nature)

About the role

NEBOSH is a £10m global organisation with charitable status, specialising in courses and qualifications in health, safety, well-being, and environmental management. Through a network of 600 Learning Partners running examinations in over 130 countries, more than 400,000 people have achieved a NEBOSH qualification over its 40-year history. NEBOSH qualifications are highly regarded by governments, employers, regulators and learners internationally.

In 2019, NEBOSH embarked on a three-year strategy underpinned by six key themes:

  • Best in field for customer support and management
  • Excellent engagement with employers and government bodies
  • Become an employer of choice
  • Excellent engagement with learners
  • Best in field for awarding technology
  • Best products of any awarding body in our field

Achieving this strategy and overcoming the challenges presented by the current COVID-19 pandemic will require transformational change. The new Chief Executive will join the organisation at an exciting and challenging time. You will be expected to focus on growing and strengthening our international presence, building ever more proactive partnerships, ensuring our qualifications are as relevant as possible in an ever-changing world, and that we have the best resources, processes and systems in place to be a high-performing and effective organisation.

The industry in which NEBOSH operates has grown significantly in recent years and, as such, the marketplace has become more competitive. The organisation faces a unique challenge of ensuring it meets its charitable objectives whilst also becoming increasingly commercial and competitive to maintain its international position.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for an inspiring and innovative Chief Executive with substantial commercial experience, an outstanding record of business transformation and growth, excellent people and communication skills, and with the drive and determination to play a key role in our future.

You will be an inspirational leader, with a proven record of developing high-performing senior teams, with sound strategic vision, commercial and financial acumen, and driving financial sustainability. You will ensure we have the most effective and efficient internal systems and processes, and that we continue to provide leading products and services to ensure we remain at the forefront of our industry, maintain our competitive edge and international reputation.

You will have excellent communication skills and an ability to work in real partnership with all those within NEBOSH, including our Board and key stakeholders, and be highly effective in building relationships and partnerships with organisations who have a shared interest in the field of health, safety, wellbeing and environmental management.

NEBOSH, with the education opportunities we provide, plays a key role in preserving and improving health, safety, wellbeing and the environment in workplaces worldwide. You will find that this is a cause very close to the hearts of our employees and our global network of learners, Learning Partners and employers. It is a vision we have contributed to over the past 40 years and, when joining NEBOSH, you will be joining a very passionate, recognised and valued community.

In 2019, we embarked on a new strategy that we believe will ensure NEBOSH’s success continues. COVID-19 has presented us with some additional challenges, some of which we have already started to overcome, such as transforming the way our qualifications are assessed.

NEBOSH is a global organisation firmly focused on saving lives, protecting people from injury and illness and supporting sustainability worldwide. NEBOSH is managed by the Board of Trustees and the Chief Executive is appointed by the Board to manage the day-to-day operations.

The health, safety and well-being of people during this Coronavirus pandemic has highlighted the critical role played by health, safety and environmental professionals worldwide, dealing with this public health emergency to protect lives and prevent Coronavirus spreading. During Covid-19, we have been doing everything we can to adopt a ‘business as usual’ approach as far as is practicable to provide support and advice to our Learning Partners, learners and stakeholders, as well as reviewing the way we deliver our products and services.

As we manage our response to COVID-19, we have announced that we will undertake the biggest transformational project in our history and, from 6th August 2020, will be running our first open book examination (OBE). This transformational project is the start of further technical and digital change at NEBOSH, which will make a huge and positive impact to our learners and Learning Partners and the technical infrastructure of our business – bringing our systems up to speed with the latest and future developments in e-learning and awarding technology.

  • Continued and improved support for all health, safety, well-being, environmental and risk professionals.
  • An enhanced range of trusted and relevant products using modern assessment technology. Multiple language options and support learning materials. This will include services provided to third parties, tailored to customer needs.

This year we achieved ISO 45001 certification, the international health and safety management standard, and announced the launch of our first open book examinations in August 2020 – a transformation project that will enable all learners to carry out their assessments from a safe location.

Our Partners

Partnership working is at the heart of NEBOSH, and our charitable status places a strong emphasis on collaboration. After 40 years in the industry, NEBOSH has a developed a network of relationships with employers, governments, membership bodies, and many more influential organisations.

We work with other organisations who are aligned with our goal of improving health, safety and the environment in workplaces to improve understanding and best practice to prevent accidents and ill health.

Our international network of Learning Partners play a significant role in the development and promotion of our qualifications worldwide, and to prepare learners for assessment. We support our Learning Partners through our programme of conferences, workshops and online information.

We are committed to working with other charities and non-profit organisations to promote health, safety and environmental excellence through education and training, and we work with the Charities Safety Group (CSG) and our Learning Partners to offer free learning and support to people from the charitable and voluntary sectors studying for NEBOSH qualifications.
