Lay Trustees x2 Anglia Ruskin University Students’ Union

As a Lay Trustee, you will work alongside our Sabbatical and Student Trustees to help us make long-term and strategic decisions that will benefit the students of Anglia Ruskin University in the coming years.

  • Location: Cambridge, Chelmsford, Peterborough and London
  • Salary: Voluntary
  • Closing date: CLOSED FOR APPLICATIONS

Our vision is to make a difference to every student.

ARU Students’ Union exists to represent the students of Anglia Ruskin University. We are supported by a professional management team and a Board of Trustees, with a £2.1 million turnover and approximately 50+ career staff spread across campuses in Cambridge, Chelmsford, Peterborough and London.

ARU Students’ Union has undertaken a significant transformation in recent years, delivering increased financial sustainability and enhancing our presence on all of our campuses.

We are currently working through our strategic plan which has four core themes. ‘Conversations’, is about having meaningful two way conversations with our members to share what we do and learn what we could do better. ‘Belonging’ is about helping our students build supportive communities on campus. ‘Learning’, is about helping our students get the most out of their educational experience.

Our final theme is ‘Broadening Horizons’. This is about helping students discover and achieve their ambitions for the future. This is where we need to enhance our work and therefore welcome new thinking from our Trustees to help us realize our goals in this area.

Other priorities are to further grow the Union and continue to professionally develop our services, in particular around Equality Diversity Inclusion and Sustainability.

We have recently become accredited with Investors in Diversity and would like to continue to enhance our EDI practices and embed them into every aspect of our work on culture.

We have also achieved “good” accreditation with the National Union of Students Green Impact quality mark, but we feel that we could do much more to enhance our environmental, financial and, ethical sustainability.

Joining us will provide you with a rewarding opportunity to support a growing charity which is developing students to become leaders within their communities.

As a Lay Trustee, you will work alongside our Sabbatical and Student Trustees to help us make long-term and strategic decisions that will benefit the students of Anglia Ruskin University in the coming years. You will also support the Chief Executive and staff team to deliver the organisational goals and plans created by the Board.

We have recently conducted a skills audit of the Board and would benefit from Trustees with skills and expertise in one or more of the following areas; HR, EDI and Students’ Unions.

It would be helpful for our HR / EDI Trustee to have experience of leading people, culture and change projects.

For our SU Trustee, it would be helpful to have recent experience of being a Sabbatical Officer, or current experience of working with Sabbatical Officers.

We welcome applications from all candidates, especially from people traditionally underrepresented in leadership.
