Interim Director of Income Generation Mountbatten Group

We are seeking to appoint an interim Director of Income Generation to undertake a time-limited review of the fundraising function across Mountbatten Hampshire and Mountbatten Isle of Wight.

  • Location: Hampshire, with occasional travel to Isle of Wight
  • Salary: £85,490 full time equivalent (3 days a week+)

Who we are.

At Mountbatten, our mission is to promote and provide good care and support for those people living with, affected by, or curious about death, dying and bereavement. As a charity, we provide a wide range of services at our two hospices in Newport, Isle of Wight and Southampton, Hampshire. We also provide a significant proportion of our services within the community to patients and their families at home.

To succeed in our ambitions, we need to generate over two-thirds of our running costs through fundraising and commercial activities. The importance of these income streams increases year on year, as NHS and other public funding become more challenging. You will have responsibility for developing and implementing a long-term business development and income generation strategy for Mountbatten Group.

About the role.

We are seeking to appoint an interim Director to undertake a time-limited review of our fundraising function across Mountbatten Hampshire and Mountbatten Isle of Wight. There would be a strong focus on identifying both quick wins to improve in-year income generation, as well as long term opportunities for developing our fundraising strategy.

The key measurables to be achieved over a 3 to 6 month period would include:


  • Review Mountbatten’s overall Fundraising Strategy and make recommendations on key changes, including implementing quick wins.
  • Identify with the Hampshire Fundraising Team new in-year income streams and develop an action plan for implementation including monitoring progress on achievement.
  • Review the team structure and job roles to ensure fit for purpose, including assessing existing and required competencies. This would be across both Hampshire and the Isle of Wight and include leading on implementing organisational change with HR support.
  • Work with the Director of Quality, Information and Data to review the administration, management and effective utilisation of the Fundraising Database.

Who we are looking for.

  • Demonstrable experience and successful track record in a senior role within charitable fundraising.
  • Extensive knowledge of techniques and disciplines within fundraising, marketing and income generation, ideally within a charity / not for profit sector
  • Significant experience in financial /budget management
  • Significant experience in successfully developing new commercial business plans and securing investment in order to achieve income growth and deliver return on investment.
  • Experience in leading on stakeholder engagement and developing successful partnerships at a senior level
  • Motivational leadership which energises others to achieve objectives.
