Head of Philanthropic Partnerships | Royal Free Charity

We're looking for a skilled major donor fundraiser with a track record of delivery and an outstanding ability to build effective long-term relationships for the charity.

  • Location: London, NW3 2QG (Zone 2)
  • Salary: £55,000 - £60,000 per annum, pending experience

Welcome from Paul Stein, Executive Director of Income Generation

I am delighted that you are considering joining the Royal Free Charity as our Head of Philanthropic Partnerships. I joined the charity earlier this year and have been struck by the quality of work but, also, importantly the huge potential that exists at every level of the organisation.

As a charity, we exist to provide an environment in which patients of the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, encompassing the Royal Free, Barnet and Chase Farm hospitals, receive the best care possible.

This includes raising essential revenue income for ground-breaking work, such as The UCL Institute of Immunity and Transplantation and the Charles Wolfson Centre for Reconstructive Surgery, both based at The Royal Free. The internationally renowned work means that we are able to give hope to people who often believe they have no other available course of treatment.

Indeed, every day, people’s lives are lengthened and immensely improved by our work. The support and care our staff provide aids not just the patient, but their families, friends and whole communities. Research and treatment continue to change, and the number of people who need our help grows year on year – this is where the Royal Free Charity plays a vital role.

The last year has seen significant changes at our charity, bringing renewed focus and a level of ambition not previously present in our fundraising.

As we come to the end of our existing strategy, we are focused on developing a wider fundraising portfolio, which meets the highest professional standards. Our recent Covid-19 Emergency Appeal also provides a unique platform on which to build. The charity has raised £2m and has doubled the size of its active database in the process.

The location of our charity presents significant opportunity for high value fundraising, particularly major gifts. So we are excited to be recruiting for a Head of Philanthropic Partnerships, a new role responsible for growing our income across major gifts, as well as trusts and corporate.

I am looking for a skilled major donor fundraiser, with high standards. A background within health/medical is certainly not essential; more important is your track record of delivery, an outstanding ability to build effective long-term relationships for the charity and ambition to do more for our beneficiaries. You may be an existing ‘Head of’ elsewhere, but I’m very happy to support the professional development of a senior manager looking to step up into their first leadership post.

In return, we offer a competitive remuneration package and a grown-up working environment alongside the opportunity to play a significant role in the development of our charity. We already have a number of the elements needed to build a successful major donor income and will support you in recruiting a first-class team capable of further success.

I hope you are excited by the prospect of joining us. Please progress through this recruitment site and make contact with Peridot Partners to discuss the role and your suitability in more detail. We very much look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,

Paul Stein
Executive Director of Income Generation
