About mothers2mothers

mothers2mothers (m2m) unlocks the power of women to eliminate childhood AIDS and create healthy families. We train and employ women living with HIV in sub-Saharan Africa as “Mentor Mothers”. From an initial focus on stopping mothers living with HIV from passing on the virus to their unborn babies, m2m now delivers a range of services for newborns, children, adolescents and families, to ensure the whole community thrives, not just survives

Through our work with governments, local partners, and communities, our ambition is to:

  • eliminate HIV infections in children;
  • reduce maternal and child mortality;
  • advance healthy development of newborns and children;
  • improve the health of women, their partners, and families;
  • promote universal access to reproductive health and family planning;
  • reduce stigma and discrimination;
  • promote gender equality;
  • support livelihood development for families and communities.

About the role

We are looking for a dynamic, results-driven Head of Philanthropy with an excellent understanding of philanthropy, major donor fundraising and best practice high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth fundraising tools and processes. Seeking someone with a thorough understanding of the UK philanthropy market who has effective team leadership and line management skills to inspire, motivate and develop a high-performing fundraising team.

Working closely with the Global Development & Strategic Engagement Director and the Director of Strategic Partnerships, this senior role will shape and lead the implementation of all elements of m2m’s European major giving and events resource mobilisation strategy. You will develop and lead a strategy that will deliver a significant increase in philanthropic income.

Well connected, networked and passionate about philanthropic giving, you will maintain a robust personal portfolio as well as provide strategic oversight and leadership to a team responsible for a range of unrestricted revenue activities in Europe; such as leading m2m’s major gifts and individual stewardship approach (including the Global Giving Circle), special events, and community fundraising.

This role will require extensive collaboration with colleagues in North America, South Africa and m2m-African country offices, providing m2m-wide thought leadership on engaging new audiences and building models of growth for unrestricted funding from high-net-worth individuals.

Departmental Structure & Key Relationships

You will report to the Global Development & Strategic Engagement Director, and will manage the Individual Giving Officer, Special Events Manager, Events Officer and Community Fundraising Officer. You will be a member of the m2m Europe Senior Management Team, and will work closely with the remainder of the UK team. You will also form a close working relationship with the m2m NA offices, and m2m South Africa office.

Key relationships include:

  • You will work closely with the Director of Strategic Partnerships to leverage opportunities with multilateral, bilateral, trust, foundation and private sector partnerships.
  • You will work closely with Head Office departments and Units, with a special focus on Communications and Programmes and Technical Support.
  • You will closely collaborate with m2m NA colleagues, especially the Acting Director, North America and Co-Founder & Chief Connector.
  • You will partner with m2m Country Directors as needed.

  • You will create and lead on an existing portfolio of high profile major giving prospects and donors.
