Walk the Walk is looking for an experienced and innovative corporate fundraising specialist to join their team as Head of Partnerships and build up their corporate pipeline, funding their inspiring fight against cancer.

Who we are.

Walk the Walk is a charity dedicated to raising money and awareness for vital breast and other cancer causes. We encourage women, men and children to be more active, to recognise this as an important part of life and cancer prevention, and to realise their potential for achieving good health and well-being.

Walk the Walk specialises in all things walking. We create large-capacity events, as well as smaller, niche challenges across the UK and globally.

With research now showing that 27% of breast cancers could be avoided with lifestyle changes and by being more active, the charity is committed to showing everyone that good health and well-being can be achieved by just putting one foot in front of another.

Walk the Walk’s first event, the iconic Moon Walk, was created by founder Nina Barough CBE in 1998 and now takes place in London, Scotland, and Iceland.

Walk the Walk also organises treks on ancient pilgrim routes such as the Camino in Spain and the Inca Trail in Peru. For those wanting to test themselves with speed, we take teams to events such as The New York City Marathon.

Whether people are only just discovering the beauty of walking, or looking for an ultra-challenge, Walk the Walk has options for them. Along with creating challenges, Walk the Walk also provides the advice required to complete their events – from training plans, and advice on clothing, shoes, and kit to nutrition and safety.

At the heart of Walk the Walk, are three key missions:

  1. Invest in research that shapes how breast cancer is not only diagnosed but also treated. Walk the Walk has funded more than £34 million towards breast cancer research including some ground-breaking research that has advanced breast cancer from diagnosis to treatment. Currently, our investment in research is less but still invested in secondary cancers.
  2. Drive awareness of the need for integrated care and help provide emotional and physical support for those living with cancer. Allowing people to live well during treatment and beyond their cancer diagnosis as part of a positive cancer journey. Walk the Walk has helped integrated cancer care to become more widely accepted, and still funds specific care projects across the UK.
  3. Empower positive lifestyle choices. Encouraging women, men, and children to be aware of their choices concerning lifestyle and their potential for good health and well-being. Communicating the growing scientific proof that being more active can support prevention and growing awareness of the fact that regular checking leads to early detection and better outcomes. Walk the Walk is continually raising awareness that anyone can get breast cancer following our Men Get Breast Cancer Too Campaign.

About the role.

As Head of Partnerships, you will lead all the Walk the Walk’s corporate activity whilst identifying and nurturing new partnerships for the organisation. This will entail liaising with funding partners and organisations, including corporate and business sponsorships, CSR, and charity of the year relationships, to develop a corporate partnerships pipeline for Walk the Walk.

You will also establish and develop opportunities and build long-term relationships with corporate partners, working with the fundraising team to leverage the best possible relationships for the charity.

Key result areas.

  1. To acquire a solid knowledge of the functions and ethos of the charity, identifying areas that support the expansion and development of existing commercial partnerships.
  2. To prepare feasibility assessments, budgets, and forecasts for proposals. Submitting applications to potential sources of income, within a variety of sectors, monitoring, reporting, and maintaining detailed progress reports, all aimed at increasing income streams and the financial targets of the charity.
  3. To create, and maintain attractive corporate packages for Walk the Walk events and the overall charity. Raising the profile of the organisation in all areas of the marketplace, to establish loyalty and sustainable income, meeting the needs of the company for win-win partnerships.
  4. Using innovative ideas for new and perhaps unusual ways of raising funds. Encouraging companies to adopt Walk the Walk as their chosen charity partner, demonstrating their commitment to social and environmental responsibility as well as supporting health and well-being within the workplace by encouraging active involvement by participating in Walk the Walk events.

This is a brilliant opportunity for an experienced corporate fundraiser to seize opportunities and innovate, create meaningful and lasting relationships with corporates, and support the inspiring work of Walk the Walk.

Who we are looking for.

The ideal candidate for this role will have an entrepreneurial approach and a proven track record in fundraising relationships across all sectors.  A clear understanding and experience of what motivates donors to give and companies to sponsor and how to maximise and secure those opportunities.

You will have at least 5 years experience in corporate fundraising at a senior level, with a proven track record of fundraising on all levels. You will also have a thorough understanding of communications and marketing strategies, able to interpret the ethos and style of Walk the Walk in all communications and planning.

Finally, you will have a high level of proven success in researching, identifying, and networking with potential corporate partners — and be able to convert these relationships into results for Walk the Walk.
