Would you like the opportunity to work for the hospice movement on a national scale? This role will provide strategic leadership and development to the corporate partnerships, new business and commercial team at Hospice UK.
The Corporate Development Team forms part of the wider Income Generation Department and works closely within and across the department. The focus in the team is on raising funds from businesses either through commercial activity or through a range of corporate partnerships.
Current activities include a range of successful corporate partnerships including several charity of the year partnerships, conferences and events, sponsorship, cause related marketing partnerships, a directory, a jobs board and the launch and future growth of the nascent Compassionate Employers programme.
This role will provide strategic leadership and development of the corporate partnerships, new business and commercial team at Hospice UK and links to the wider organisation and external stakeholders. It will support the collaborative and positive culture across the team and wider organisation related to generating income from businesses.
The role holder will develop and deliver an integrated and comprehensive strategy to build on our current corporate and commercial activity. The implementation of this plan will ensure developing our existing areas of activity but also expanding what we do to ensure an ongoing and sustainable range of income to meet challenging ongoing targets.
The role will provide commercial leadership and a strategic, coherent and collaborative linking of corporate and commercial activity with the rest of the department and the wider organisation.
We are looking for someone with a range of fundraising experience relating to raising money from organisations and linking them into wider income generation activities. You will be an inspiring leader with a track record of successfully building teams to achieve targets and establish sustainable performance. You will be able to support a collaborative approach to income generation in the charity across a complex range of internal teams and individuals, stakeholders and networks.
You will also have proven success in commercial and corporate partnerships activity and knowledge of a range of opportunities that could be explored for the development of Hospice UK’s income generation. We are seeking a creative and innovative person who can identify and implement commercial opportunities for income generation and explore the latest trends in the sector, identify possible options and prepare business cases.
This is a demanding but rewarding role for someone with excellent interpersonal, negotiation and influencing skills and is a brilliant opportunity to develop, foster, maintain and utilise a network of existing and new relationships alongside the Director.
The role will cover up to a year’s maternity leave and has a two month notice period.
Closing date: 9am, Friday 5th June 2020
Thank you for your interest in the role of Head of Corporate Development (maternity cover) at Hospice UK.
This is a key role for the organisation at an exciting time in our development as we continue to deliver on our five-year strategy to transform hospice care in the UK. Our work as the national charity for hospice and palliative care has never been as important as it is now as we try and navigate the COVID-19 pandemic and its significant implications for dying, death and grief.
The aim of the role is to bring the leadership needed for us to make a step-change in how we work with and generate income from businesses. Bringing together three distinct areas – corporate partnerships, new business development and commercial – into one cohesive function with a clear mandate to transform how we form, develop and strengthen partnerships with businesses to support Hospice UK and hospice care across the UK.
In almost every UK community, local hospices are delivering some of the very best care available to people as they approach the end of life or for children with life-limiting conditions. However, demand for hospice care is growing fast, driven by Britain’s ageing population, COVID-19 and an increasing number of older people living with complex care needs, as well as young people living for longer with life-limiting conditions.
Hospice UK plays an important national role in equipping hospices with the knowledge, skills and expertise needed to support their local communities and to work in partnership with other care providers to extend their reach through this immediate crisis and beyond.
Equally important are the roles we play in championing hospice and palliative care, generating new income streams that can benefit both local hospices and Hospice UK as the national charity for hospice care.
The fundraising environment remains challenging so in order to grow we must build stronger and wide-ranging partnerships with businesses. The person appointed to this role will need strong experience and expertise in developing and leading the delivery of a corporate income generation strategy with a clear vision and evidence of what could be achieved; the ability to work at a strategic level whilst managing the detail and complexities of delivery without relinquishing the focus on the end goal, and the influencing skills needed to bring key stakeholders along with plans.
If we are to reach our vision of hospice care for every person in need, then we must have a solid foundation with sustainable income streams for hospice care and a compelling case for support that will engage a wide range of businesses and position Hospice UK as a key charity partner. This role plays a pivotal part in helping us to achieve that.
We very much hope you will want to join us.
With best wishes,
Director of Income Generation
Hospice UK is the national charity for hospice and palliative care. We work to ensure all adults and children living with a terminal or life-shortening illness receive the care and support they need, when they need it.
We believe that everyone, no matter who they are, where they are or why they are ill, should receive the best possible care at the end of their life. No one should die in avoidable pain or suffering.
To empower individuals, communities and populations to embrace the ethos of hospice care and extend its breadth and reach to improve everyone’s experience of death, dying and bereavement.
We champion and support the work of more than 200 member organisations, which provide hospice care across the UK, so that they can deliver the highest quality of care to people with terminal or life-limiting conditions, and support their families.
Increasingly, hospice care is provided outside of hospice buildings. Hospice teams work in a wide range of settings – local charitable hospices; nursing homes; hospitals – and the vast majority of hospice care is provided in peoples’ homes.
Hospice UK supports the breadth, dynamism and flexibility of modern hospice care by: influencing Government and decision makers; improving quality of care through sharing of good practice; and providing training, education and grant programmes.
We work collaboratively with our members to support their vital work and to create a stronger voice for hospice care in the UK. We also support the development of hospice and palliative care worldwide.
Our ambitious strategy is the blueprint for how we can achieve the transformation that is needed and sets out the following four strategic goals that will be driving our work over the next five years:
“Hospice care aims to affirm life and death. It means working with and within local communities to tailor palliative care around the needs of each adult and child with a terminal or life-shortening condition, whatever that may be, and extends to supporting their carers, friends and family before and after bereavement. Hospice care is provided by multi-disciplinary teams of staff and volunteers who offer expert support that places equal emphasis on someone’s clinical, physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs with the understanding that everyone will be different.”
Our definition of hospice care
Everyone, no matter who they are, where they are or why they are dying or bereaved should get the care and support they need. In income generation we do this by engaging people with why we are here through emotional story-telling, connecting people to our cause, giving them the opportunity to support us indifferent ways and helping them to feel proud to make a difference.
To have created a culture where Income Generation is embedded in the DNA of our organisation where everyone thinks like a fundraiser and is proud of fundraising. That our case for support is clear and compelling and the invitation and inspiration to support the cause is in everything we do.
There are three key pillars to our income generation strategy:
1. Grow and diversify our corporate income and partnerships.
2. Develop our major giving.
3. Focus on individuals doing more for us.
