Head of Assessment and Product Development Skills and Education Group

Skills and Education Group are recruiting for an innovative Head of Assessment and Product Development to lead a growing team through exciting changes and new product strategies.

  • Location: Flexible working arrangements available with regular travel to Nottingham Head Office.
  • Salary: £45,000-£50,000

About the Role

The Head of Assessment and Product Development will be responsible for leading the newly integrated teams of Skills and Education Group Awards and BIIAB in the day to day operations of the product development and end-point assessment units.

This will include being part of the senior management team, not only providing a strategic approach to the management and implementation of product development and end-point assessment, but also liaising closely with other heads of departments to ensure the right resources and communications are in place to further extend the reach of Skills and Education Group Awards and BIIAB as well as promote developments internally.

As the Head of Assessment and Product Development is a new role, you will have the opportunity to bring your own ideas to enhance the product strategy which you will be responsible for implementing, including engaging and building relationships with external markets and networks such as training providers, employers and stakeholders to push forward with the overarching organisational growth ambitions.

You will work closely with the Director of Awarding Services, ensuring that all end-point assessment activity and regulated qualifications remain compliant with the requirements of all regulators and regulatory bodies and develop new policies, procedures and KPIs to support changes to the business model as required.

Who we are looking for

As the Head of Assessment and Product Development, you will have previous experience working within an awarding organisation or end-point assessment organisation at a senior level and bring excellent management skills to support and develop a high performing team.

You will ensure collaboration remains a key focus within the team itself as well as across the organisation and externally, leading by example with a true passion and enthusiasm for developing and delivering high quality products and assessments and helping people reach their full potential.

You will be confident in the process of qualification and assessment development, as well as have excellent project management skills to oversee key changes which will further benefit and enhance the team and organisation.

As Head of Assessment and Product Development, you will need to have experience of working with regulatory bodies such as Ofqual, IfATE and ESFA and have hands on knowledge of the regulatory requirements for end-point assessment delivery and regulated qualifications.

You will also be able to interpret Apprenticeship Standards and Assessment Plans, plus ideally have knowledge of on-screen and on-line testing systems and managing budgets.

This role is an incredible opportunity for someone who is keen to take ownership over a growing department with some exciting partnerships on the horizon and who really values the goals and ambitions of an organisation truly dedicated to improving the lives of others through their work across the FE and skills sector.

Closing date: Monday 22nd November 2021

Dear Candidate

Thank you for your interest in our vacancies here at the Skills and Education Group.

The Skills and Education Group and its awarding subsidiaries are at an exciting junction as we enter the 110th year of our history. We have a new strategic plan centred on achieving our mission, which is “The advancement of skills and education to improve the lives of individuals”. We have recently acquired BIIAB from the British Institute of Innkeeping, which sits alongside our existing awarding body, Skills and Education Group Awards, and our Access Validating Agency, Skills and Education Group Access.

Having successfully navigated our way through the pandemic and reset the Group in terms of our ambitions for the future, we are experiencing growth right across the Group in all of our divisions. Skills and Education Group is an exciting place to work and we are looking for two talented people to join that team in key roles that will help drive both our growth and our commitment to quality.

We would welcome applications from people who share our values of being ambitious, responsible and collaborative. We are looking for an ambitious individual, someone who is forward-thinking, responsive and focused on solutions that increase the impact of our work. By responsible, we mean someone who has a reputation for doing the right thing and supporting people to reach their full potential. Finally, we want someone who by nature is collaborative, focused on maintaining quality working partnerships at all levels and working with colleagues internally and externally to enhance the customer experience.

These are key roles which will be pivotal in how we move forward. The contribution to the Group from these roles will be significant and we are looking for the right candidates to drive our awarding, assessment and product development forward.

For the Head of Assessment and Product Development, we are looking for someone who is keen to join our Senior Management Team and contribute their experience in driving forward our extensive and diverse qualification and end-point assessment portfolios across BIIAB and Skills and Education Group Awards, contributing significantly to the strategic approach we are taking to the development of our portfolio.

For the Product Development Manager post, we are looking for someone who can combine their passion for the hospitality sector and the difference they can make through the qualifications and end-point assessment offer we have within our BIIAB portfolio.

We trust you find the information about our organisation and the posts inspiring and that you will submit an application as a result. If you would like an informal discussion about either of the roles, then please do not hesitate to contact our recruitment consultants, Peridot Partners.

Kind Regards

Paul Eeles

Chief Executive

Skills and Education Group

We have a proud history of serving the further education and skills sector for 110 years.

Born out of the East Midlands, but now a national group of further education charities and businesses, we have been many things since our inception in 1912.

But, at our heart, we are a membership body for further education and skills providers.

Our subsidiaries, Skills and Education Group Awards, Skills and Education Group Access and BIIAB, are therefore unique as the only awarding bodies and Access Validating Agency directly owned by the further education and skills sector.

As a Group, we do four things:

  1. Support the development of staff in the further education and skills sector through a range of professional development services
  2. Champion and support social mobility within the further education and skills sector
  3. Develop and award industry-relevant, high-quality qualifications, awards, accreditations and end-point assessments
  4. Act as a national leader in Access to Higher Education, awarding high-quality Access to HE Diplomas that enable learners to progress into further study and/or employment

In 2019, we formed our Foundation, which champions and supports the social impact the sector has on the life chances of the learners it serves. Since its inception, the trustees have committed 40 per cent of the surpluses we make to the work of the Foundation.

The main way in which the Foundation supports the sector is through the provision of grant funding for our member organisations to support their learners, helping them to overcome social barriers and reach their potential. Since the Foundation’s launch, we have awarded over 90 grants totalling almost £40,000.

Our trustees and executive leadership team are determined that the work we do for the sector, employers and learners will make a difference. We are committed to supporting our 60 members and 900 Centre’s to make a difference to the life chances of the tens of thousands of people our work affects.
