The new Head of Digital Marketing will be joining the National Deaf Children’s Society during an exciting time of digital transformation within the organisation. We are currently undertaking an organisational wide digital review to integrate digital into all aspects of our working.

Our new Head of Digital Marketing will develop and lead on the implementation of multi-channel marketing strategies across the organisation. Working closely with colleagues across the charity, this role will support, advise and guide staff to help them achieve their digital marketing objectives, meet customer needs and adopt best digital marketing practice.

Line managing a team of 8, with 5 direct reports, this role will oversee all aspects of digital marketing for the charity. Taking a data-driven approach and championing digital innovation, the team will utilise key digital marketing channels to increase the National Deaf Children’s Society’s reach and influence online.

The Head of Digital Marketing will play a full and active role in the communications department senior leadership team, proactively contributing to vital aspects of the charity’s wider external engagement.

The successful candidate will be an experienced digital marketing professional, with an up-to-date knowledge of digital marketing techniques and tools. You will be a natural influencer with a background in devising and delivering multi-channel marketing strategies and campaigns. Taking a data-led approach to everything you do, you will have an eagle eye for detail and the ability to create meaningful reports that drive continuous improvement towards our strategic goals.

You will also have experience in line management and have the ability to work closely with colleagues across an organisation to fulfil their digital marketing needs and champion best practice. Experience within the charity sector is desirable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, agree and lead the implementation of digital marketing strategies which help achieve the charity’s mission and objectives.
  • Lead, direct and motivate the Digital Marketing team to deliver the maximum impact against organisational objectives.
  • Line manage direct reports to ensure they operate at optimal efficiency, and receive appropriate levels of support, supervision, coaching, training, appraisal and development in line with organisational policies.
  • Support, advise and guide staff across the charity to help them achieve their digital marketing objectives and meet the needs of customers, including beneficiaries and donors.
  • Establish and refine systems for briefing, project management and evaluation, ensuring data and audience insights are used to optimise activity and learning is captured and fed into future planning. Regularly report on results to the Deputy Director: Digital, Marketing and Communications and the Digital Governance Group.
  • Champion digital innovation and proactively monitor trends, using findings to inform content and technical development. Identify and test new digital tools and marketing approaches and recommend their use by the organisation.
  • Project manage delivery of integrated campaigns and activity (both internal and external) and work collaboratively with other Communications teams to provide impactful content and a coherent service across the organisation.
  • Oversee work to increase the charity’s reach and influence online, ensuring all content is optimised for search engines, digital opportunities are exploited and paid search activities are enhanced. Agree a long-term vision for the website with benchmark targets and oversee the delivery of plans for continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the delivery of social media plans which maximise engagement, increase our impact and protect the charity from reputational risk.
  • Take overall responsibility for management of digital marketing suppliers and agency partners, including negotiation of fees, contracts and service level agreements.
  • Manage the central support budget for digital marketing activity, including regular review against planned activity and reforecasting. Advise teams across the organisation on the budget levels they will need to allocate to cover the digital marketing activity in their annual workplans.
  • Play a full and active role in the Communications department senior leadership team and deputise for the Deputy Director: Digital, Marketing and Communications as required.
