We are growing. In influence, membership and service innovation. So, we’re looking for a commercially savvy CEO who will balance risk with innovative product development.
As CEO you’ll get to work in a collaborative, collegiate and forward-thinking organisation. Alongside people who love working in a mission-led workplace, where values are key and the culture is strong.
We’ll need you to be thoughtful, strategic and confident in order to represent GS1 UK on the global stage. You’ll be comfortable bringing industry together, from NHS to large retailers through to small online start-ups. Our diverse stakeholders are what make us different and you’ll need to understand their challenges in order to lead the team who will collaborate to solve them.
The only constant is change and we’re looking for someone who can horizon scan and understand the unique opportunities available in our evolving world.
You’ll be a proven leader with international experience and a background in one of our core sectors. One of your first jobs will be to develop and then deliver our next strategic plan.

In GS1 UK, we are central to bringing the physical and digital worlds together, whether it be across the retail value chain or the patient journey in healthcare, you will have been touched by what we do every day. When you scan and pay for a product in store; purchased an item online from one of the major marketplaces; or are provided with a barcoded wristband in hospital; it wouldn’t be possible without our standards.
Increasingly we are becoming central to providing solutions to address the key societal issues of our time: sustainability, traceability and recycling. The power of our standards truly transform the way we work and live.
Personally, I have had the privilege of being the Chair of GS1 UK for just over a year. I have previously been involved in the past as a Board Director and as Vice Chairman over many years.
Gary Lynch, our current CEO, is retiring, as planned, at the end of 2020 after overseeing sustained growth for more than 15 years. We have a strong Executive Team, supported by a diverse, knowledgeable and committed Board, selected to represent our key sectors. In the Global organisation of GS1, there are peers and counterparts who look to the UK to contribute towards the worldwide delivery of our global mission.

They hold us to account and ensure we are innovating in areas that are pivotal to their businesses, the wider industry and society as a whole. And, because what we do is recognised by our stakeholders as ‘pre-competitive’, organisations that usually compete are able to work together with GS1 to develop the standards and services for the benefit of the whole industry.
