The remarkable Legacy Youth Zone in Croydon is looking for an experienced and skilled Grants and Trusts Manager to deliver growth so they can continue to impact the lives of thousands of young people each year.

  • Location: Hybrid / Croydon – We ask our colleagues to be in the Youth Zone for at least 60% of their working week
  • Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 per annum, pro rata

Who we are.

Croydon Youth Zone, named Legacy by young people, was opened in September 2019. The Youth Zone is an independent charity, but we are proud to be part of the growing OnSide Network, whereby we have adopted a set of principles that guide our work with young people.

Our universal offer is focussed around a state-of-the-art, multimillion-pound facility that is purpose-built and remains dedicated to young people. We work with young people aged 8-19 (up to 25 with additional needs) and offer an array of activities for young people to get involved in. Our services are affordable for young people who can access the provision for just a £5 annual membership and a 50p entry fee. Whilst our building and activities provide a hook for young people to engage with us initially, the relationships they develop with our ambitious and energetic team of youth workers ensure they return night after night. We pride ourselves on being open when young people need us the most, during evenings and weekends, whenever schools are closed.

Since opening, the Youth Zone has had nearly 13,000 young people sign up as members, of which around 60% are male and 40% are female. At times during our opening months, 1,400 young people were visiting the Youth Zone every week, making it a go-to destination for Croydon’s next generation. From March 2020 through January 2022, the Youth Zone operated under various restrictions and challenges due to the Covid-19 pandemic. During that period, we were able to continue to support young people using new and innovative forms of engagement whilst we also extended our support to the wider community when they needed it the most.

For the last 2 years, we have been operating without restriction and now provide 31 hours a week of universal provision for young people. The Youth Zone is now having to adapt and respond positively to being at the forefront of challenges around the lasting impact of the pandemic, young people feeling isolated and the cost of living crisis.

We are continuing on an exciting journey that will impact the lives of hundreds of thousands of young people, and we need as many people as possible to become part of ‘Our Lasting Legacy’.

About the role.

The purpose of the role is to drive income generation for Legacy Youth Zone, enabling them to deliver a world-class youth provision for young people. To develop the case for funding through exceptional bid writing, building relationships with prospects and donors, generating an active pipeline of prospects and actively stewarding donors.

The Grants and Trusts Manager will play a leading role in Legacy’s Fundraising Team, developing our grant fundraising capabilities and growing this income stream. The role’s primary purpose is to generate unrestricted income and deliver funding for targeted projects (such as employability programmes, mentoring programmes, or mental health initiatives).

Legacy has developed a targeted funds infrastructure with live impact data established and ready to utilise in funding proposals. It costs £1.5 million a year to run Legacy, 85% of which is generated through voluntary donations. You will, therefore, play a vital role in keeping the charity financially sustainable through the development of trusts & grants fundraising. You will be given ample scope to test your creative ideas and drive forward income generation, supported by the Director of Fundraising & Communications, the Chief Executive and a forward-thinking and engaged Board of Trustees.

We are searching for exceptional and experienced grants and trusts specialists who love to build relationships and partnerships with new and existing funders.

There are plenty of leads and a warm pipeline to go for strategically, and you will have an active and engaged board to support you.

This is a strategic and hands-on role, so we are looking for candidates who will relish working cross-organisationally to gather impact and cases for support to deliver long-term success.
