About Certsure

Electricity is at the heart of the climate change agenda.  Low carbon transportation and the rise of electronic products and technologies resulting in the growth of smart buildings’ that utilise lighting, heating and security, mean that opportunities are substantial.

Certsure is playing an increasingly important role in safeguarding both tradespeople and consumers. Set up as a joint venture partnership by owners Electrical Safety First (charity) and Electrical Contractors Association (professional membership association), Certsure delivers products and services that ensure the high standard and competency of businesses undertaking electrical work.

Certsure is the proud owner and operator of the NICEIC brand, one of the most powerful and well-recognised names in the UK construction industry. Electrical Contractors themselves recognise the power of the NICEIC brand and yet, there is so much more that can be done to support Certsure’s growing list of registrants.

As a business, Certsure is trading well, and is profitable and growing. To ensure our market-leading position and continued growth, we need to be agile and able to take new opportunities presented by the increasing take up of electrical products. Digital modernisation and organisational change are key priorities, and we have a significant investment pot available to support our transformation. With the appointment of a new Finance Director, our leadership team will be refreshed and ready to deliver Certsure’s aspirations.

Who we are looking for

As a qualified accountant with leadership experience, your technical expertise will be largely assumed. Your approach to the role and your ability to manage stakeholders and communicate at all levels of the organisation are more important.

  • Can you take a positive role, as a part of the leadership team, in driving change and transformation through Certsure?
  • Are you agile in your work and excited about new technologies and ways of working?
  • Do your people skills enable you to positively engage with people and stakeholders and communicate complex financial information clearly and succinctly?
  • Can you tell a story?
  • Does your positive energy and commercial acumen set you apart from other Finance Directors?

If you can say yes to the questions above, here’s why you should consider Certsure for your next career move:

We are a market leader yet have huge potential for growth. Our digital transformation is exciting, and you’ll be part of a new leadership team committed to driving change. The Finance team is well-resourced, with a good number of qualified accountants and staffed by people committed to Certsure.

You can also help us improve. Data exists, but analysis and the narrative around reporting can be developed to better support strategic decision making. The IT, digital and systems transformation will be significant, so experience of ERP or systems modernisation will be helpful.

This could be your first Finance Director role if you have experience as a Deputy FD, Head of FP&A or had similar role in a larger commercial business.

We are likely to be looking for somebody with experience in a range of organisations and industries with broad views, rather than somebody who has stayed in one place for a long-time; unless you’ve seen significant change and transformation in that one role. You’ll also be willing to get into the operations when required, yet be able to hold the strategic objectives firmly in mind.

As an LLP, experience of working within a commercial not-for-profit, or partnership environment might be useful, as would experience working with boards and stakeholders with a variety of different objectives.

Whatever your background, you’ll want to understand our business and demonstrate both motivation and values that align to supporting the safety, success and development of the electrical trades as professionals. These professionals will enable our society to evolve positively, with respect to meeting climate change targets and adopting electrical energy and products safely.

Welcome from the Managing Director

Having joined in January, it’s not taken me long to discover what a wonderful company Certsure is. I’ve already discovered so much about the organisation, and it is clear that there are huge opportunities and strengths, yet also a critical need for transformation and modernisation.

We’ve clarified our strategy and recognised that this can only be delivered through transforming Certsure into a modern, agile and resilient organisation. Our goals include stretching financial targets; adding further value to the work of our owners; and working to increase the trust and respect all stakeholders have for Certsure. We are committing to deliver more value for our owners by promoting and amplifying their work, creating a pipeline of future members and evidencing the impact we have on safety, which directly contributes to their goals and objectives. We are stronger when we work together to affect change within our sector.

Our customers’ installations must be safe and therefore technical integrity is at the heart of everything that we do, giving our NICEIC brand an enviable position in the market. But we aren’t resting on our laurels; we continue to strive to better meet our customers’ needs both as the ways energy is generated and used change, and the ways that our customers want to manage their businesses evolve. I’m committed to building a leadership team who can identify, qualify, and attack opportunities with energy and excitement. As our new Finance Director, you will have a pivotal role in delivering our transformation through delivering high-level financial and commercial analysis that supports strategic decision making.

But being a competent senior Finance professional is only part of the requirement. As an Executive Director of our Board and member of our Strategic Leadership Team, you will be an engaging leader with the ability to make a difference by inspiring and improving people, role modelling the values and behaviours that will enable us to build a safe, inclusive and entrepreneurial organisation   As we seek to grow and diversify, your leadership capability will also need to extend beyond the usual organisational boundaries to elicit strong performance from our partners and operate with gravitas and credibility amongst a diverse set of stakeholders.

In summary, as Finance Director, you will have a significant role in helping us to shape Certsure’s future culturally, strategically, and financially.

I hope that you enjoy finding out more about Certsure and the Finance Director role and can see how exciting it is to be joining us at this time.

I look forward to meeting you in due course.
