Director recruitment | Carers First

We're looking for a Director of Services and a Director of Income & Communications to play a vital part in developing and implementing a new strategy and driving change and high performance across the charity.

  • Location: Flexible (Essex, Lincolnshire, London or Medway)
  • Salary: £49,000 - £55,000

Who are we?

Carers First is a leading carers’ charity delivering services across Lincolnshire, Essex, Medway and four London Boroughs. The organisation was established in 1991, has grown significantly over recent years. It currently employs 140 people and has an annual budget in the region of £4m.

A new Chief Executive has been appointed to lead the charity on the next stage of its exciting journey; to increase reach, support and impact of the services the charity provides and to develop and diversify its funding base.

Carers First works directly with and for, unpaid carers to provide personalised information, advice and support. Making it easier for those caring for someone else to continue living their lives to the fullest. Every carer’s story is different, yet the issues they face are often similar. Nearly half of carers struggle to balance employment with their caring role, others find it difficult to make time for their own health and wellbeing, and for many the situation can create serious financial difficulties.

Obtaining relevant information and support can itself be a challenge, but with it, carers can thrive. That is why Carers First offers several avenues for people to get the help they need either online, on the phone or in their community. We offer timely advice and work with carers to identify the best way forward, for them as individuals.

Our Values

Everyone will be VALUED for the role they have to play

Everyone will be RECOGNISED for the value they add

Everyone will be treated with RESPECT in recognition of their circumstances

Everyone will be treated EQUALLY to respect their differences

Everyone will be SUPPORTED to find the help they need

We will strive for EXCELLENCE in everything we do

Welcome from the Chief Executive

Dear Candidate,

We are delighted that you are considering joining the leadership team at Carers First.

I have recently been appointed as Chief Executive and feel strongly and passionately that there needs to be greater recognition and support for carers. I have joined the charity with a remit to build a new strategy, to evolve operations and to work in partnership with other organisations to make a positive difference, with and for carers. It’s a brilliant charity that I’m excited to take on the next stage of its journey, with a dynamic and innovative leadership team.

Carers make an enormous contribution not only to the people they help, but to society as a whole. The support they provide saves the UK economy £132 billion each year, but it is often overlooked. Many carers are not receiving the information or support they need, at the time they need it most.

At Carers First, we understand that caring can be hard, but believe getting the right help shouldn’t be. We work directly with and for, unpaid carers to provide personalised information, advice and support. Making it easier for those caring for someone else to continue living their lives to the fullest.

The Director of Services and Director of Income & Communications will both have a vital part to play in developing and implementing our new strategy and driving change and high performance across our charity.

If you have the passion and drive to make a difference, and you have the experience and skills we are looking for, we are keen to meet you – and welcome you to our dedicated and talented team.

Warmest wishes,

Alison Taylor
Chief Executive
