About the role

This newly created Director of Transformation role will lead IOSH’s transformation agenda during an important period of organisational change and development. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and working closely with the executive leadership team, the Director of Transformation will oversee the delivery of strategic transformation programmes while helping ensure operational stability and organisational alignment throughout change.

The role will lead the development and delivery of IOSH’s transformation roadmap, overseeing programme portfolios, operating model evolution and organisation-wide change initiatives. You will play a central role in embedding more connected, collaborative and agile ways of working across IOSH, helping shape a modern operating model that is responsive, customer-focused and aligned to future ambitions.

Alongside programme leadership, the role will work across governance, culture, digital transformation and stakeholder engagement, building strong relationships across the organisation and helping create clarity, momentum and confidence during periods of change.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for an experienced transformation leader who combines strategic thinking with practical delivery expertise. You will likely bring experience leading complex, organisation-wide transformation programmes across matrixed or multi-stakeholder environments, with a strong understanding of programme governance, operating model design, cultural change and organisational development. Experience of digital transformation and leading change across people, process and systems will also be important. Equally important is how you lead.

We are looking for someone who can build trust, bring people together around shared goals and navigate complexity with empathy, credibility and clarity. You will be comfortable influencing across functions, supporting colleagues through change and balancing long-term strategic ambition with operational realities.

This is an opportunity to help shape the future of a globally recognised purpose-led organisation with a strong sense of mission and growing international influence.

Welcome from the Chief Executive Officer

Dear Candidate,

Thank you for your interest in the Director of Transformation opportunity at IOSH. I appreciate you taking the time to explore both the role and our wider ambitions for the future.

IOSH exists to create “a safe and healthy world of work”. That vision is simple, but the impact behind it is significant. Every day, our members, partners and colleagues help organisations across the world to protect people, strengthen workplaces and contribute to healthier, more sustainable working lives. Through our strategy, Activate 2028, we champion occupational safety and health not only as a professional discipline, but as a critical part of social sustainability, organisational resilience and good leadership.

We are now at an important point in our own organisational journey. IOSH has grown considerably in both scale and influence. Today, we support 50,000 members globally, expand professional standards and qualifications, influence international policy and continue to evolve our services, systems and ways of working to meet the changing needs of the profession.

At the same time, we recognise that the world of work is changing rapidly. This presents both challenges to our existing ways of operating and growth opportunities that can only be realised through profound change. Technology, digital transformation, changing workforce pressures and expectations and increasing global complexity all require us to adapt with pace and purpose.

IOSH is already investing significantly in its future, including changing how and where we work, transforming our business processes, introducing new digital platforms, evolving governance structures and exploring new ways of engaging our members, customers and communities.

This newly created role is therefore a timely and important appointment for IOSH. The Director of Transformation will help shape how we evolve as an organisation over the coming years, ensuring that our strategic growth aspirations become practical, sustainable and meaningful change.

The role will lead the delivery of our transformation agenda, helping us modernise our operating model, strengthen organisational agility and embed a more connected “One IOSH” culture across the organisation.

What excites me most about this opportunity is the breadth of influence it offers. This is not transformation for its own sake: it is transformation in service of our mission, our members and the people ultimately impacted by safer and healthier workplaces around the world.

The successful candidate will work closely with colleagues across IOSH to connect strategy, operations, culture, technology and delivery in a thoughtful and practical way.

We are looking for someone who brings both strategic perspective and the ability to inspire and make collective change happen. Someone who can navigate complexity with clarity, build trust across diverse stakeholder groups and create momentum through collaboration rather than hierarchy alone.

You will likely bring experience of leading large-scale organisational transformation, operating model change and cultural evolution. Equally important is how you lead. We value integrity, inclusivity, curiosity and people who create space for others to contribute and thrive.

IOSH is an organisation with a strong sense of purpose and a genuine willingness to evolve. There is real ambition here, but also openness, care and a desire to work together well.

Thank you again for your interest in joining us at this important stage in our journey. I hope this pack gives you a meaningful insight into both the opportunity and the organisation behind it.

We look forward to hearing more about you.

Warm regards,

Vanessa Harwood-Whitcher
Chief Executive Officer, IOSH
