Who we are.

Made in Britain is the organisation that unites, supports, promotes and represents manufacturing businesses that make their products in the geographical territories of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Much more than an award-winning registered trademark for British manufacturers, Made in Britain is the unique trade association that today brings together more than 2000 businesses that believe in and thrive for a better, greener and more profitable manufacturing sector for the UK. We help Made in Britain manufacturers to sell more and better. We help everyone to find and choose British-made goods.

About the role.

We now seek a Director of Membership and Programmes that will unite, support, and galvanise our business community, helping them all succeed even better and faster with the application of the Made in Britain registered trademark. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, you will play a key role in the innovation of new and exciting ways to galvanise our growing community and evolve the group strategically into a powerful and purposeful network that will meet online and in-person to raise standards of business responsibility and raise awareness of the meaning of the Made in Britain trademark.

You will direct the Membership Team based at our head office in the Malvern Hills AONB to maintain our high licence renewal rate, and compliance with the trademark licence rules and welcome on-board new members every month making products our diverse range of 50 product sectors. Your primary role will be to build a public-facing narrative of trust in the trademark, from a database of membership interactions with MiB and with each other. You will increase the number of scheduled programmes for members that currently include the monthly Trademark Masterclass, the International Trade Programme and the Annual Impact Awards for excellence and success with the trademark.

Who we are looking for.

We seek someone whose experience has been gained in a trade association or membership body, with significant responsibility for member relations. This key new role will require someone experienced in creating and delivering programmes of events, connecting people, and who has the ability to handle multi-dimensional queries, disputes and enquiries from members and the public. A general understanding of marketing and communications techniques, methodologies and trends is key to the role, as is experience in monitoring and evaluation, with the ability to interpret and respond meaningfully to data and evidence.

You will have strong commercial awareness and business acumen, and be an enthusiastic team player with the ability and willingness to engage with a broader collective of consulting organisations. The ability to think strategically — but also have an eye for detail and be prepared to be hands-on is important, as are highly attuned interpersonal, diplomacy and communication skills.

If you wish to help attract the very best manufacturers to our strategic goal of sustainable growth for the sector, then we would love to hear from you!

Welcome from the Chief Executive Officer

Dear applicant,

As the CEO, I’m very delighted to see that you’re interested in joining Made in Britain.

Made in Britain brings together the British manufacturing community, united with the use of the official, registered trademarks. The suite of trademarks is protected and they can only be used by members of Made in Britain.

We are now seeking a Director of Membership and Programmes, a newly created role that will galvanise our 2000-strong business community, helping them all succeed even better and faster with the application of the registered Made in Britain trademark.

We exist to help our members sell more of what they make in this country. We do this by raising awareness of the sector with strategic PR and communications, and also by building strong relationships with stakeholders looking to increase the volume of goods purchased that are made more locally to where they are needed. All our members are licence holders of the Made in Britain trademark and apply the mark to their goods and to their marketing communications.

The more members use the Made in Britain mark, the more recognition we achieve for the values and standards to which our membership is committed. We call this the virtuous circle of manufacturing growth, and it continues to ‘rotate’ at more than 30 new applicants every month.

You will be joining a team of marketing and communications professionals working within our group of Executive Agencies, working at the very highest levels of innovation in trade representation and promotion. Our membership comprises businesses with turnover in the millions and billions, and at every stage of growth in between. We treat our members equally, with an accessible system of licencing the mark that demands high levels of compliance with our terms of use of the mark and exciting levels of transparency from our members – their successful business actions are published on their own news platform with more than 1000 unique stories every year.

Our organisation proudly promotes this successful group to attract more manufacturing sector businesses to the idea of mainstreaming excellence, competence and innovation for the sector’s sustainable growth. This role is pivotal in helping us achieve this.If this excites you, we’d be delighted to hear from you!

About Made in Britain

We unite, support, promote and represent manufacturing businesses that make products in the geographical territories of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Much more than an award-winning registered trademark for British manufacturers, Made in Britain is the unique trade organisation that brings together more than 2000 businesses that believe in and thrive for a better, greener and more profitable manufacturing sector for the UK.

When you become a Made in Britain member, you become part of something bigger – a growing community of businesses committed to creating a strong, prosperous future for British manufacturers. We all believe that, together, British manufacturing is greater – and stronger – than the sum of its parts. And by encouraging collaboration, the pursuit of innovation and a sense of pride in what we achieve, we can look forward to the future with a greater sense of purpose and optimism.

Members are paying to access and embed the official, registered trademark (the Mark) within their business, after qualifying to join within our strict criteria and after paying the correct licence fee aligned with their turnover. Being a member affords their business a set of additional benefits which help them achieve even more impact with their willingness to join in with promoting the trademark together.

There is a clear environmental and social value imperative to our work. Buying something made closer to where it’s needed makes sense for the heart and the head. Whether you’re a consumer seeking something made by a company you can call up on the phone, or a procurement buyer specifying bulk purchase of industrial goods and equipment. The Made in Britain product directory holds all the data and content people need to find the product they are looking for made by a business we can all trust.

As the organisation moves into our second decade with ever-increasing measurable recognition of the trademark, we continue to attract the very best manufacturers to our strategic goal of sustainable growth for the sector.
