Director of Income Generation and Strategic Communications UK Youth

UK Youth is recruiting for a highly experienced, strategic and innovative Director of Income Generation and Strategic Communications to help to deliver their bold vision in unlocking youth work as a catalyst for change for young people.

  • Location: Central London office (hybrid working)
  • Salary: £85,000 - £90,000 (depending on experience)
  • Closing date: 9 a.m. Monday 3rd June

Who we are.

UK Youth is a leading charity that exists to ensure all young people are equipped to thrive and empowered to contribute at every stage of their lives.

As outlined in our 2025 #unlockingyouthwork strategy, we are working to unlock youth work for all young people. However, we cannot make the change on our own. We bring together young people and youth workers with business leaders, teachers, social workers, doctors, policymakers and other professionals to learn, spread effective ways to support young people, and campaign for social change. Only by working together can we tackle the systemic problems that keep letting our young people down.

We believe youth work is a catalyst for change that young people need now more than ever. We play a unique role in addressing; the lack of investment in the youth sector, the lack of cross-sector understanding of how youth work makes a difference and the limited opportunities to embed effective solutions.

We are building a movement of change; galvanising like-minded individuals, organisations, government, and businesses from all sectors, to work together and deliver system change for all young people. Together we will create a society that understands, champions, and delivers effective youth work for all

About the role.

This role will:

  • Lead income generation, strategic communications, and events for UK Youth in this pivotal role. Work alongside the Chief Executive and Senior Leadership Team to realise UK Youth’s vision, craft an ambitious strategy, and provide professional and people leadership across the entire organisation.
  • Spearhead the development of a diverse income generation portfolio. Collaborate with the SLT to create and execute the organisation’s bold income generation strategy, securing both the annual budget of £17m and an additional £7m for groundbreaking innovation initiatives. Transform UK Youth’s approach to storytelling, partnering with global brands to develop creative and impactful campaign partnerships. Diversify income streams and innovate new income development opportunities, working closely with the SLT to create strategic opportunities that bring corporate partners together and amplify collective impact for the youth of the UK.
  • Take responsibility for the development and implementation of a comprehensive strategic communications strategy that will transform and enhance the effectiveness of the charity’s voice. Utilise your ability to develop innovative, best-in-class digital communications, marketing, and storytelling content, overseeing the creation of new digital platforms and powerful storytelling methods. Develop effective stakeholder relationship management processes to ensure that partnerships at all levels enjoy a rich stewardship engagement experience with UK Youth.

Welcome from the Chief Executive Officer

Dear Candidate,

I am thrilled that you are considering joining UK Youth as our new Director of Income Generation and Strategic Communications. This critical leadership role is an exciting opportunity to unlock youth work in order to make a lasting impact on the lives of young people across the United Kingdom. We are seeking a unique individual who is ready to take on the challenges and opportunities that come with that.

Young people are growing up in a complex and increasingly challenging world. There are severe pressures on their mental health, employment prospects, and hope for the future.

Youth work is an essential tool to help young people navigate these difficulties and set them up with skills for life. But over ten million young people are currently unable to access this life-changing, and even life-saving, support.

At UK Youth, we are not satisfied with the status quo. We are working tirelessly to transform the lived experience of millions of young people, and we need a leader who is not intimidated by big ideas or bold ambitions. We are looking for someone who is confident in their skills and abilities, particularly in the areas of income generation, strategic communications and innovation. Someone who will thrive when partnered with a fast-paced, very ambitious, and bold CEO. As someone who is often “one of one” in many of the spaces I work in, I am passionate about attracting candidates from across a wide spectrum of diversity.

As a charity, we are implementing a systemic change-focused strategy, that requires us to be in a constant state of learning and adaptation. We need a leader who can effectively guide teams through ambiguity and bring confidence to individuals at all levels of experience. This isn’t a role for someone who needs certainty and stability; it is a role for someone who is energised by the opportunity to solve “wicked problems” and drive meaningful change. We are not looking for someone who focuses on the glass half empty or who simply identifies problems. We need a leader who can see the potential in every situation and who is committed to finding creative solutions to even the most complex issues.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of developing and delivering ambitious income generation strategies, with experience in growing and sustaining income for organisations with budgets of £10m or more. You will be skilled in cultivating long-term funder partnerships, diversifying income streams, and exploring innovative approaches to fundraising. Additionally, you will be an exceptional communicator with the ability to develop and implement comprehensive strategic communications plans that amplify the charity’s voice and impact. Strategic comms is a gap we have identified and we are seeking a Senior leader able to move the dial on this area for the Charity.

If you are a confident, skilled, and adaptable leader with expertise in income generation and strategic communications, and you are passionate about empowering the next generation, then we want to hear from you. Join us at UK Youth and be part of a team that is learning how to effectively challenge the status quo, innovate fearlessly, and drive transformative change.

A little about me; As a woman of faith, I am passionate about leading with integrity and making the world a better place for young people. I was born in Nigeria, the youngest of 6, who grew up in South East London. I am an avid reader, usually non-fiction, but I am currently on book 22 of my fiction challenge of “24 books in 2024”. When I need to switch off my brain, I indulge in my guilty pleasure of Keeping up with the Kardashians. (I can’t help it!)

If this opportunity resonates with you, and you are ready to make a real difference in the lives of young people across the UK, I encourage you to apply. I look forward to the possibility of working together to unlock youth work for 14 million young people across the U.K.

Kind Regards,

Ndidi Okezie
