About Jersey Hospice Care

Jersey Hospice Care was started in 1982 by the community, for the community.

A Jersey-registered charity, we are committed to transforming and delivering outstanding palliative care for our community. Whatever role we work in at the hospice, whether directly with patients or in a non-clinical role, we know that the “what” and the “how” have equal weight in ensuring that we are all part of delivering outstanding care.

As the only hospice in Jersey, we touch the lives of many people on island and in the community directly and indirectly. We put patients, their families and the people close to them first. As our services are free of charge, like most Hospices across UK we rely on the support of fundraising by the community, local companies, and trusts alongside the income generated by our retail shops to continue caring for adults, children, and young people, with life-limiting conditions to live life to the full and to support their families and loved ones.

Until now, Jersey Government has provided c.15% of the monies we need. Over the last 18 months we have led on the creation of a comprehensive, island-wide end-of-life and palliative care strategy. The costs of implementing this have been approved by Government and we are currently awaiting decisions on what this will mean for Hospice funding – if successful, this will transform end of life services on island and ensure more sustainable funding for Hospice whilst nonetheless placing even greater demand on our own sources of income.

Our services

Our services are delivered in hospice, the home and the community and include community nursing through a Specialist Palliative Care Team, a 12 bedded In Patient Unit, and bereavement counselling. We also have plans to provide new, modernised day services (closed since the pandemic) and to introduce a new Hospice at Home service. Last but not least, we have a small team providing support to children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions with ambitions to extend these services further.


About the role

The Director of Income Generation and Marketing is an expansion of an historic role and will be responsible for the overall leadership and direction of Fundraising, Retail, Marketing and Communications for the charity.

As a member of the executive team of directors, the Director of Income Generation and Marketing reports directly to the CEO, supporting them and the trustees in the leadership and strategic direction of the hospice.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic fundraising leader with experience of developing, leading, and implementing strategies and a strong understanding of donor journeys.

The successful candidate will lead, motivate, and empower our Income Generation and Marketing team to achieve their ambitious targets.

It is likely that you’ll have worked for another hospice or healthcare charity, but we are open to applicants from other roles. Most importantly, you will have significant experience in developing and delivering fundraising, marketing and communications strategies. We are open for this to be someone’s first director-level role.

Key responsibilities:

  • To lead the fundraising and retail teams to achieve income targets through the implementation of exciting strategies and plans.
  • To develop and implement a dynamic marketing and communications strategy that is responsive to the changing priorities of the hospice and the needs of islanders.
  • To lead the income generation and marketing team in the cultivation and solicitation of major donors, corporates, trusts and foundations, and to help with the development and maintenance of a portfolio of prospects/donors.
  • To lead, manage, motivate, and develop the team, enabling each team member to utilise their skills and experience effectively.
  • To lead “from the front”, taking every appropriate opportunity to be a visible face/ambassador for the Hospice and to represent the charity internally and externally.

Thank you for expressing an interest in becoming the new Director of Income Generation & Marketing at Jersey Hospice Care.

We are a vibrant hospice with an established and strong reputation across Jersey for high standards of care, providing the best possible end-of-life and palliative care service for islanders, wherever and whenever they need it.  .

I am delighted that you are considering joining our executive team at what is a very exciting time for our charity as we have and continue to play a crucial role in driving forward plans for an even more comprehensive island-wide end-of-life strategy for all islanders, in collaboration with Jersey government and other services on the island. On the back of this, we are planning

a new hospice strategy, to be funded by increased income from fundraising, retail, and government. Our plans may also include an exciting capital appeal, which presents a great opportunity to embed relationships with major donors and corporate supporters on Jersey.

I joined Jersey Hospice Care in July 2021, after spending 10 years heading up Haven House Children’s Hospice in NE London. My previous background included 12 years in fundraising, notably 5 years as Director of Fundraising at a national UK charity, and I recognise both the importance of proper resourcing of income generation as well as the need for the Chief Executive and the Director to work closely, wherever and as appropriate.

I am incredibly passionate and proud about our work and am fortunate to be surrounded by a superb executive, staff, and volunteer team. Our values are hugely important to us and play a big part in our culture and decision-making.

Our new Director will lead our Fundraising, Marketing & Communications and Retail teams to deliver the vital awareness and income that will enable us to meet the needs of the community we serve. The external funding landscape continues to change, and we need a Director able to maximise opportunities with our existing relationships and income portfolio as well as help the team to grow and to identify new business opportunities and deliver success.

We are looking for an energetic, ambitious and driven individual who will bring ideas and creativity, challenge our thinking, and lead our fundraising team and efforts to new heights. Our fundraising portfolio is in a good place, but we can do more, with your leadership and expertise.

Living in Jersey is different with many benefits and also challenges.
