Dear Candidate,

I am delighted that you are interested in becoming Director of Fundraising at St Luke’s Hospice. We were founded by local people of Harrow and Brent who had the vision of creating a hospice to provide high quality care and support to people in the local community who were at the end of their lives. More than 30 years later this vision and ethos continues to drive our work.

Our fundraising activities play a vital role in raising funds which support the compassionate and person centred care we deliver. We want to significantly increase the financial contribution from this vital income stream to support our future growth. We want to do more in future to improve the quality of life for people at the end of their lives, to educate staff in other settings to deliver better end of life care and to enable people to die with dignity, cared for in the way they want in the place they choose.

We are looking for a leader who will be a part of the Senior Executive Team of St Luke’s, representing and creating a culture of awareness of fundraising across the organisation. We need someone with significant charity fundraising experience and commercial acumen for this role but also someone who can build and lead a motivated team of staff and volunteers who embody the hospice values of Caring,Respect, Excellence, Inclusivity and Empowerment in all that they do.

If you believe you are that person then we would love to hear from you.

Kind regards

Alpana Malde
Chief Executive Officer

About St Luke's Hospice

St Luke’s Hospice cares for people approaching the end of their life in Harrow and Brent. We aim to give the people we care for the best possible quality of life, each and every day. Supporting local people and their families is at the heart of what we do – focusing on what matters the most to them is at the centre of our care.

Founded by local communities, we have been providing free expert end of life day care for local people since 1984 and specialist care in our In-Patient Unit (IPU) since 2000. Our IPU can care for people in their final days, provide intensive care to help get symptoms under control or give respite care. Many of the people who are cared for in our IPU go home again.

Two thirds of our care is now provided in the comfort of peoples’ homes, as we respect that this is where most people would like to be looked after. The care we give is free of charge, available to all, and respects the cultures, religions and beliefs in our richly diverse community.

Who we are

St Luke’s Hospice provides world class palliative (end of life) care and is committed to working collaboratively and sharing our expertise with other health care professionals outside of the hospice. We emphasise good working relationships with our amazing colleagues in the NHS and take a highly collaborative approach, working together to improve the experience for people who are approaching the end of their life.

We receive around 40% of our funding from the NHS and the rest is raised from the amazing generosity of the organisations and people who make our care possible. Our local community is a vital partner in our care, kindly supporting us through their donations and fundraising alongside the dedication of over 800 incredible volunteers who freely give us their time to support the best possible end of life care for local people.
