Help shape how NICEIC creates greater value for its customers and grows its impact across an industry central to the UK’s transition to a safer, more electrified future.
As the Customer and Commercial Director, you will join our senior leadership team and help turn those ambitions into sustainable growth.
You will shape how we understand our customers and markets, using that insight to develop propositions, inform pricing and investment decisions, and identify opportunities for growth. You will have responsibility for revenue growth across customer-facing products and services, including training, publications, events and value-added services.
There is significant scope to develop our commercial capability. We want to become more deliberate in how we approach customer acquisition and retention, develop our pipeline and use data to understand performance. You will bring together customer, commercial, marketing and market thinking so that we make better decisions about where to focus our energy and investment.
You will work closely with colleagues across technical, operations, assurance, training, technology and transformation. That collaboration matters. Commercial growth at NICEIC needs to sit comfortably alongside the technical integrity and trust on which our reputation has been built.
You will bring senior leadership experience from a commercial, customer- or revenue-led environment, with evidence of delivering growth and developing commercial capability.
We are interested in experience gained across different sectors. You might have worked in a commercial business, professional or membership organisation, certification or regulated environment, or another organisation with products and services that customers actively choose to buy.
You will understand the disciplines behind sustainable growth, including propositions, pricing, pipeline, customer insight and market development.
You will also be comfortable using evidence and financial information to make decisions about investment and return.
Just as importantly, we want someone who works collaboratively, shares expertise and creates space for constructive challenge. You will contribute beyond your own directorate, helping us build a stronger senior leadership team and develop the capability we need across Certsure.
If you are interested in using your commercial experience to help an established and trusted organisation grow its value to customers and the wider industry, we would be pleased to hear from you.
Certsure’s principal locations are Dunstable and Chesterfield. The successful candidate’s hub will be agreed based on where they are based: either location can be their formal place of work. Travel to the other site will be treated as business travel, with expenses covered.
The expectation is approximately three days each week working in person. Those days may include time at the candidate’s hub or the other site, with customers or elsewhere across the organisation, depending on priorities. There is no prescribed split between Dunstable and Chesterfield.
Wednesdays are generally used for face-to-face leadership activity, with meetings able to take place across the two principal sites. Beyond this, the Director will have flexibility to organise their time around their team, customers and business priorities.

Thank you for your interest in joining Certsure as our Customer and Commercial Director (known internally as Customer, Growth & Market Leadership Director).
I joined Certsure earlier this year because I saw both the importance of what we do and the opportunity ahead of us. Through NICEIC, we have spent 70 years helping to raise standards across the electrical industry.
Today, more than 40,000 businesses are NICEIC-certified, with our work supporting technical competence, safety and trust across the sector.
That responsibility matters as the industry evolves. Electrification, low-carbon technologies and changes in regulation and skills are reshaping the work our customers do.
We need to continue setting high standards while making sure we understand what our customers need from us, how we can support their businesses and where NICEIC can create greater value.
Since joining, I have been working with colleagues to develop our three-year strategy and design a new Target Operating Model. We have a strong organisation to build from and a highly respected brand. We also have choices to make about how we grow, develop our services and respond to opportunities that we are not yet fully exploiting.
You will play an important part in that work. You will join our senior leadership team with responsibility for bringing together how we understand our customers, develop propositions, approach our markets and deliver sustainable commercial growth. The role has ownership of revenue growth across our customer-facing products and services, including training, publications, events and other value-added services.
I want us to become much more deliberate in how we use customer and market insight. That means understanding where opportunities exist, developing propositions that customers value, making good decisions about pricing and investment, and improving the experience people have with us. It also means working closely across technical, operational and transformation teams so that our decisions translate into better outcomes for customers.
We are looking for someone who has led commercial growth and understands the disciplines behind it: revenue, pipeline, pricing, propositions, customer insight and market development. I am particularly interested in people who have helped develop commercial capability within an established organisation and can bring experience from other sectors and business models.
How you lead will matter. Certsure talks openly about creating a safe and inclusive workplace where people can develop and contribute. I want a senior leadership team where people share expertise, use evidence, challenge constructively and give colleagues the space and confidence to contribute.
If that combination of commercial opportunity, customer focus and responsibility for an important industry standard appeals to you, I hope you will consider joining us.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Clair Mowbray
Chief Executive Officer, Certsure LLP
NICEIC is Certsure’s flagship brand and the UK’s largest certification body for electrical businesses. For 70 years, NICEIC has played an important role in raising standards across the electrical industry, and today more than 40,000 businesses carry NICEIC certification.
Our work is grounded in technical competence, safety and trust. We assess and certify businesses against recognised standards, while supporting customers through training, technical expertise, guidance, publications and services that help them develop their businesses and deliver high-quality work.
Certsure is an LLP owned by two partners, Electrical Safety First and the Electrical Contractors’ Association (ECA). This gives us a distinctive position within the sector. Our commercial success supports our partners’ wider work to improve electrical safety and support the electrical contracting industry, connecting the strength of our business with a broader contribution to the sector. Find out more about Certsure.
The electrical industry is developing rapidly. Electrification, renewable technologies and the transition to low-carbon energy are creating new opportunities for businesses and changing the skills and services their customers need.
For NICEIC, this brings questions about how we continue to support existing customers, attract new ones and develop products and services that respond to where the industry is heading. Our reputation and market position give us a strong foundation from which to do that.
We are developing a new three-year strategy and reshaping our Target Operating Model to support the next stage of Certsure’s development. A stronger understanding of our customers and markets will be central to this, alongside better use of data and greater commercial capability.
We want customer insight to inform the decisions we make about propositions, pricing and investment, while continuing to protect the technical integrity on which NICEIC’s reputation has been built. The Customer and Commercial Director will have an important role in connecting these areas and helping us develop a more joined-up approach across the organisation.
How we achieve our ambitions matters. We want Certsure to be a place where people share their expertise, work across organisational boundaries and feel able to question established ways of doing things.
Our leadership approach places importance on creating a safe space for curiosity, shared learning and constructive challenge. We want colleagues to feel trusted to contribute, take ownership and use evidence to make good decisions.
As we develop Certsure, we are investing in the capability of our people as well as our products, services and systems. For our senior leaders, that means contributing beyond their own area of responsibility and helping colleagues across the organisation succeed.
We have been awarded a 1-star accreditation from Best Companies, which is a significant achievement that shows we take workplace engagement seriously. We believe that a supportive environment is essential for our team members to thrive. To achieve this, we have implemented various initiatives, including Certsure Well-being Week, which focuses on mental, physical, nutritional and financial well-being.
At Certsure, we are committed to inclusion and psychological safety, reinforcing our aim to create a working environment where colleagues feel safe to disclose their needs and confident that they will be listened to, supported and treated fairly.
Applicants can request adjustments at any stage of recruitment via the recruitment contact or hiring manager. We will agree and arrange suitable support promptly (e.g., alternative formats, accessible interview arrangements, extra time), sharing information only on a need-to-know basis.
If the applicant is successful, any ongoing workplace adjustments are reviewed during onboarding and then on an ongoing basis. Further guidance can be found in the Certsure Guidance on Reasonable Adjustments for Disability, Health Conditions and Neurodiversity document.
We understand that different members of the community have different access needs and have made some modifications to the way we do business to accommodate people from diverse communities and abilities.
