About the role

NEBOSH is a £10m international business, the leading organisation for qualifications in health, safety, wellbeing, and environmental management. More than 400,000 people have gained a NEBOSH qualification since 1979, delivered through a network of Learning Partners running examinations in over 130 countries. Our qualifications are internationally recognised and highly regarded by governments, employers, regulators and learners worldwide.

Despite the challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic, this has created new and exciting opportunities for NEBOSH to transform our whole business. During the year, several new Non-Executive Directors joined the Board, along with our Chair appointed a new highly experienced Chief Executive in September 2020 to focus on: growing and strengthening our international presence; building ever more proactive partnerships; ensuring our qualifications are relevant in an ever-changing world, and that we have the best people, resources, processes, and systems in place to be a high performing and effective commercial business.

The Corporate Services Director will play a key executive role in our decision making, with accountability for driving the strategic direction, performance and organisational strategy of NEBOSH. Reporting to the Chief Executive and working closely with the Board, Audit and Risk Committee and Executive Team, the position is critical in building a success driven ethos, by providing strong, clear, and inspiring leadership across the organisation, all of which support our charitable objectives.

The position requires strategic and operational leadership for Finance, HR, Risk, Facilities Management and IT Systems Integration. Lead on creating a dynamic and commercial operating culture, driving continuous improvement and high performance to achieve operational excellence across NEBOSH.

Who we are looking for

We seek a strong commercially focused business leader with the decisive ability to implement and drive strategic vision, and who can bring a highly successful track record of driving financial sustainability and growing income. You will be highly proactive with a proven record of inspiring and developing high performing teams and embedding the most effective and efficient internal systems and processes.

As a chartered qualified Accountant, you will be able to demonstrate previous accountability for the success of leading Finance, HR, Risk, Facilities Management, IT, and Systems Integration. You will also have excellent communication and relationship building skills to form effective partnership with all those within NEBOSH, including our Board, key stakeholders, and our Learning Partners.

I joined NEBOSH in September 2020 and although this is an unprecedented time, I am excited and privileged to have the opportunity to work in such a passionate industry that really makes a difference. I am committed to continuing the NEBOSH legacy in creating high quality qualifications that help to protect and save lives around the world.

Although Covid-19 has presented everyone with many challenges, we at NEBOSH, a team of skilled and experienced people, have already made huge strides in digitally transforming the way our qualifications are delivered and accessed. The health, safety and wellbeing of people during Covid-19 has highlighted the critical role played by health, safety and environmental professionals worldwide, dealing with this public health emergency to protect lives and prevent Coronavirus spreading. During Covid-19 we have been doing everything we can to adopt a ‘business as usual’ approach as far as is practicable to provide support and advice to our Learning Partners, learners and stakeholders, as well as digitally transforming the way we deliver our products and services.

In August 2020, we introduced our first open book examination which was the start of further technical and digital change at NEBOSH. These changes are making a huge and positive impact to our learners and Learning Partners, technical infrastructure of our business, and bringing our systems up to speed with the latest and future developments in e-learning and awarding technology. Not only did over 8,000 people take our first open book examination, but we also significantly reduced our environmental impact.
