Despite the challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic, this has created new and exciting opportunities for NEBOSH to transform our whole business. During the year, several new Non-Executive Directors joined the Board, along with our Chair appointed a new highly experienced Chief Executive in September 2020 to focus on: growing and strengthening our international presence; building ever more proactive partnerships; ensuring our qualifications are relevant in an ever-changing world, and that we have the best people, resources, processes, and systems in place to be a high performing and effective commercial business.

NEBOSH is a commercial organisation with a charitable purpose, firmly focused on saving lives, protecting people from injury and illness, and supporting sustainability worldwide. We achieve this through our range of qualifications, which are designed to give learners the skills and knowledge they need to make a difference. We are a UK-recognised awarding body with Approved Awarding Body Status from the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA).
NEBOSH is overseen by a Board and the Chief Executive is appointed with full accountability to lead on the strategy execution. The Chief Executive and Executive members are responsible for delivering the business plan to achieve NEBOSH’s purpose and mission.
We employ just over 100 people who are the key to our success, and we work with an international network of Learning Partners who play a pivotal role delivering the high-quality education and training to ensure our learners succeed.
We are proud of the impact of our work; helping to save lives and protect others from life changing injuries and ill health around the world. Our work has earned the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for International Trade.
Our Vision is to preserve and improve health, safety, wellbeing and the environment in workplaces worldwide.
Our Mission is to be recognised as the global leading provider of high-quality qualifications, training opportunities and learner engagement in occupational health, safety, environmental, wellbeing, risk and related subjects.
The health, safety and wellbeing of people during Covid-19 has highlighted the critical role played by health, safety and environmental professionals worldwide, dealing with this public health emergency to protect lives and prevent Coronavirus spreading. During Covid-19 we have been doing everything we can to adopt a ‘business as usual’ approach as far as is practicable to provide support and advice to our Learning Partners, learners and stakeholders, as well as digitally transforming the way we deliver our products and services.
In August 2020, we introduced our first open book examination which was the start of further technical and digital change at NEBOSH. These changes are making a huge and positive impact to our learners and Learning Partners, technical infrastructure of our business, and bringing our systems up to speed with the latest and future developments in e-learning and awarding technology. Not only did over 8,000 people take our first open book examination, but we also significantly reduced our environmental impact.
NEBOSH, a leading global organisation, has been at the forefront of improvements to global health, safety and wellbeing, and makes a significant contribution to protecting and saving lives around the world.
Our NEBOSH qualifications are the foundation of our success and are recognised by people and organisations across the world. They are relevant to all kinds of situations and workplaces and are respected by industry experts to raise the competence of safety and environmental professionals, as well as individuals at all levels in the workplace.
Since 1979, over 400,000 people from around the world have gained a NEBOSH qualification and every year tens of thousands study with our network of Learning Partners in over 130 countries. Our qualifications are highly respected by governments, employers and our learners. They build the knowledge and skills which underpin competent performance as a health, safety and environmental professional.
Since 1979, NEBOSH has championed the improvement of health, safety, wellbeing and environmental management across the world. We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved BUT we have our focus firmly set on the future as modern workplaces are changing.
We have started an exciting and ambitious transformational plan to ensure we maintain our position to be the very best in everything that we do.
Partnership working is at the heart of NEBOSH, and our charitable status places a strong emphasis on collaboration. After 40 years in the industry, NEBOSH has a developed a network of relationships with employers, governments, membership bodies and many more influential organisations.
We work with other organisations who are aligned with our goal of improving health, safety, wellbeing and the environment in workplaces to improve understanding and best practice to prevent accidents and ill health.
Our international network of Learning Partners play a significant role in the development and promotion of our qualifications worldwide and to prepare learners for assessment. We support our Learning Partners through our programme of conferences, workshops and online information.
