Class Representative

We’re looking for trustworthy, intelligent people who will be prepared to be the face of a major claim of billions of pounds on behalf of millions of UK citizens as Class Representatives.

  • Salary: Remunerated – part time consultant rates for up to four years

Do you have a passion for consumer rights and care about the area of personal data protection?

Our client is dedicated to facilitating claims for compensation for the wrongful use of personal data and is doing so through collective action lawsuits on behalf of millions of affected UK citizens. In doing so they want to make a lasting philanthropic impact.

Almost every adult in the United Kingdom is having their personal data exploited without their knowledge; surveillance of our browsing habits and purchases and location tracking through browsers and apps is ubiquitous, insidious and affects us all by creating “profiles” and sharing our private online information with thousands of third parties who target us with unwanted advertising and often inflammatory or “fake” political messaging. The impact of this widespread and indiscriminate practice includes polarisation of the political realm and an increasingly adverse health impact on our children.

Our client’s aim is to use a significant proportion of the damages that will be awarded from these lawsuits to invest in not for profit bodies to fund research into corporate infringements on data privacy and facilitate direct action against them.

Based on legal advice from leading barristers, our client believes almost every UK adult could be entitled to compensation of up to £1,000 each from the multi-billion dollar companies who are profiting from you and your families’ data.

Their action, these lawsuits and your input will fundamentally change the way big tech uses and monetizes our personal information. You’ll help to create a positive and lasting legacy of building better protections for personal data and creating a safer online environment.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for a number of individuals who will stand as the “Class Representative” for a number of cases. We’re looking for a UK resident who has a passion for consumer rights and cares about the area of personal data protection. You’ll be recognised as a trustworthy, intelligent individual who is prepared to be the face of a major claim of billions of pounds on behalf of millions of UK citizens.

What’s involved

As our Class Representative you will need to be able to commit up to 350 hours a year (or five hours a week) for up to three years to represent the millions of people affected by unlawful data processing. You’ll be advised as to your role by a law firm, supported by a committee of experts, and insured against any risks involved. You’ll be asked to give very limited evidence and likely only to spend a limited amount of time in court as the case will be fought principally on expert evidence. Beyond this, your time will be spent being briefed on the case by your legal counsel and in reviewing and approving any PR involved in the case that uses your identity.

It’s possible the case will not go to trial. If settled, the case will result in damages being awarded, which will enable funding for new actions to be commenced that protect personal data.

Do you have a passion for medical data protection rights and care generally about the area of personal data protection?

Our client is dedicated to facilitating claims for compensation for the wrongful use of personal data and is doing so through collective action lawsuits on behalf of millions of affected UK citizens. In doing so they want to make a lasting philanthropic impact. Our client’s aim is to use a significant proportion of the damages that will be awarded from these lawsuits to invest in not-for-profit bodies to fund research into corporate infringements on data privacy and facilitate direct action against them.

In 2015 Google obtained 1.6 million patients’ medical data records from the Royal Free Hospital. These were from patients who had all been received scans in the five years prior to the data being transferred to Google. The UK data regulator has ruled that this transfer was made without a lawful basis.

The data was used to train a product that Google has now commercialized and is now selling to NHS Trusts. Our clients believe that big data companies like Google should not have access to our most sensitive personal data – our medical history – without our consent.  This was not obtained by Google.

Our client is therefore looking for a patient of the Royal Free Hospital between 2010 and November 2015 to help lead a claim to obtain compensation for this unauthorized “leak” of patients’ data.

Based on legal advice from leading barristers, our client believes almost every affected patient could be entitled to compensation of up to £1,000 each from Google,  who has profited from their medical data.

Their action, this lawsuit and your input will fundamentally change the way big tech uses and monetizes our personal medical information.
