Chief Executive Solent Students’ Union

This is an exciting time to join us at Solent Students' Union as CEO, lead our new strategy and provide the visionary leadership to make the appropriate changes.

  • Location: Southampton, Hampshire
  • Salary: £48,000 - £56,000

We exist to ensure our members get the best possible experience during their time at Solent University. We represent the voice of students, campaign on their behalf, and provide high-quality advice to our students.

Many of our students have to balance work, family, and other commitments alongside studies and work around the clock to gain the most from their educational experience.

We care deeply about the wellbeing of our students and have developed innovative services such as our Safe Solent scheme which ensures that our students can get a safe taxi home, free of charge, if they are studying late.

We are currently at the end of a strategic plan. This plan was set before the pandemic and therefore our priorities, operations, and our physical location have all changed. Over the course of our next strategic plan, we will need to address three primary challenges.

They are; to enhance our levels of engagement, to build equity and inclusion into everything we do and to diversify our income streams.

We have begun to address these challenges by taking managed risks to rebuild our event portfolio. Sending our team on NUS’s race equality training programme and developing new partnerships to generate additional income. We know that further actions and changes will be needed.

We believe that this is an exciting time to join us as CEO, lead our new strategy and provide the visionary leadership to make the appropriate changes.

As CEO, you will benefit from an engaged staff team, many of whom are new to the SU. All of our staff have ideas to enhance the SU and are open to change.

Our ideal candidate is approachable, inclusive, and collaborative with a willingness to take managed and informed risks.

We want you to find solutions to benefit a complex membership. We realise that not all ideas will be a success, it will therefore be important that you have the analytical ability to measure impact and take challenging decisions.

We are open to first-time Chief Executives, but expect that you will have some demonstrable experience of leading growth, change and/or enhancement.

We welcome applications from all candidates, especially from people traditionally underrepresented in leadership.

Vaios Koukouletsos

President of the Students’ Union and General Secretary of Solent Labour

Hello! Thank you for your interest in joining Solent Students’ Union team!

As we begin to move into the new academic year, loads of changes are taking place at Solent Students’ Union – so this is a very exciting time to consider joining our team!

Solent Students’ Union is a Registered Charity, and our main purpose is to represent the interests of all Solent students on the issues they may face (whether that’s locally on campus or nationally) during their time at university.

We are run by four sabbatical officers: our President, Head of Student Engagement, Head of Student Education and Head of Student Welfare, who are annually elected by other students. They are all passionate about listening to our students’ concerns, campaigning to improve the student experience, host a variety of events, lobby the University to make the changes students want to see and run societies for students, so this is a very exciting time to join our students’ union!

Campaigns and events are not the only things we do. We also offer a range of invaluable services for students, such as our advice service, which is free, independent, and open to all students. It’s there to help give advice and support students throughout their academic experience at Solent.

Alongside our sabbatical officers, our SU team has 11 hardworking, dedicated, and experienced colleagues who are always coming up with new ways of working, whether this is how to make events more inclusive and accessible to all or supporting campaigns in an innovative way, all the while ensuring our students are benefitting as much as they can.

You can find more information about our SU on our website: www.solentsu.co.uk or by searching @SolentSU on social media!

We look forward to welcoming you to hopefully seeing more from you!
