The Advocacy Academy is dynamic, ambitious and unapologetic, and we are looking for a new Chair of Trustees who is as passionate about building the world as it should be.

The Advocacy Academy (TAA) is an activist youth movement of leaders fighting for justice.

We serve as a political home for grassroots youth organising and the catalyst for collective action. Our Advocates’ lives have been directly shaped by living in an unjust world, and we exist to turn their anger into action.

From a single residential in an old community building to multiple programmes, campaigns, and a £1m income we are growing and scaling our impact. We’ve moved from a position of instability into a stronger and more robust organisation and have achieved a position where morale is high, and people are looking forward with confidence. The Board of Trustees now needs to evolve to effectively support our ambitions and ensure that we are well-governed as TAA grows.

We have some wonderful Trustees who will benefit from a Chair with the experience to work out what we need, and then bring clarity to the steps we need to take, with purpose and urgency. You’ll help us move from a Board providing operational support to one that works more strategically. We need governance structures, processes and working practices that are appropriate for a medium-sized charity. We also need to come together as a team of Trustees and collectively be building better relationships with staff and other stakeholders.

We are dynamic, ambitious and unapologetic, and we are looking for someone who is as passionate as we are about building the world as it should be. It is critical that your values and commitment to achieving social justice align with ours. Ideally, you’ll have life experiences similar to those of the people on our programmes and a real connection to the communities we represent. Your belief in their potential to create societal change sets you apart.
