Join a successful and growing charity providing high quality housing to students across Leicester. This is a great opportunity for people with strategic leadership and creative thinking skills to bring your expertise to the Board of the biggest single provider of student accommodation in Leicester.
Sulets is the biggest single provider of student accommodation in Leicester and provides housing and advice to students, last year renting high quality accommodation to 2,400 students. With a policy of ‘no fee’ for tenants and a commitment to high quality standards, we also provide advice to students ranging from money advice, budgeting or how to deal with repairs. Last year we were shortlisted for the University Business Partner of the Year and nominated for the Small Business of the Year.
Having grown our reserves and following another successful year, we are poised for growth. There is a continued growing demand for our services from both Landlords and Tenants, and we are now looking towards our next stage of development. To help us to do this we want to invite two new trustees and a chair to join and continue to diversify our Board.
Working with a diverse board including university, student and independent representation our chair and trustees will lead and contribute to the development of a new strategy to realise our growth agenda whilst maintaining our commitment to providing high quality accommodation at a fair price for students.
As our chair, you will have significant leadership experience at an executive or non-executive level and bring a track record in leading successful growth, development and expansion preferably in a property, housing or lettings environment, although we are open to experience from other sectors.
Our ideal candidate will have experience of raising finance and will bring a strong commercial and customer focus, balanced with an affinity to our charitable purpose. With the credibility and gravitas to interface with university, community and business stakeholders, you will possess high-level negotiation and ambassadorial skills and have the ability to provide constructive challenge and support to our entrepreneurial CEO. Clear thinking and decisive with the ability to drive consensus in the context of competing demands, you will also bring the knowledge and expertise to continue to drive excellent governance and board performance.
As our trustee, we are looking for you to bring skills within either marketing, communications and social media or property development and/or lettings. You will also possess the strategic leadership and creative thinking skills to be able to contribute fully to a diverse and forward-thinking organisation and be entrepreneurial and creative in your approach.

I’m delighted you are considering a position on the board of Sulets and I hope you are excited by the prospect of joining us at a time when we are poised to grow and develop further.
We have built a strong reputation for providing high quality and affordable housing to students across Leicester and, since our inception, we have continued to develop – last year we provided high quality accommodation for 2,400 students. We have a strong financial base, with healthy reserves now reaching £1.2m and have made a surplus each year.
We have refreshed our governance, with new memorandum and articles and re-focused on our charitable objectives. We are now in a position where we are focused and clear about how we want to evolve Sulets for the future and need a new chair and trustees to help us achieve the next stage of our journey.
Following a skills audit, we would like to invite individuals to consider these roles who have skills within commercial property and lettings, raising finance and also marketing and communications. It goes without saying you will align to our commitment to provide high quality and affordable housing for students.
As our chair, we need someone who has the leadership experience to help us develop our next strategy. This will include examining how we can best invest our reserves and funds for the future – whether this be in purpose built accommodation or purchasing property. To this end, we are ideally looking for someone who has experience in this area and a proven track record in supporting business growth and raising finance. You will also be adept at chairing a diverse board which includes university, students’ union and independent representation.
We are also looking for two new trustees who could bring experience in either strategic marketing and communications; ideally in an environment engaging with young people and/or students, and/or strategic experience in a commercial property/lettings environment.
In all roles we welcome people who are ambitious, creative and lateral thinkers and are committed to our charitable aims and objectives. We encourage candidates from diverse backgrounds to consider these opportunities and add new perspectives and experiences to our board.
We are very excited by the future ahead and you can make a real contribution to our ongoing success. If you are interested, please do read the information we have provided and contact Philippa Fabry at Peridot Partners for further information and an informal conversation.
We look forward to hearing from you.
