NEBOSH is an Educational Charity that operates commercially in order to save lives, protect people in the workplace, and support sustainability worldwide. We achieve this through our range of qualifications, designed to give learners the skills and knowledge they need to make a difference. We are an internationally recognised awarding organisation and have UK Approved Awarding Body Status from the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) Accreditation.

We are currently recruiting for:

  • Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee
  • Trustee (Education/Assessment)

We employ over 140 people – each one remains the key to our success. We also work with our accredited international network of Learning Partners in over 148 countries, who play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality education and qualifications to support individuals to develop their careers and employers to develop their workforce.

Our focus is on growing and strengthening our presence both in the UK and internationally; building proactive partnerships; ensuring our qualifications are relevant in an ever-changing world; and combining the best people, resources, processes, and systems to operate as a high-performing organisation.

As we continue to modernise our organisation, we have a new vision; one which sets out what we aspire to look like in the future, underpinned by our mission and why we exist. Together, they create a clear direction of travel involving the whole organisation and every person in it, to support us to continue our success and lead the way into a new era.

Our new vision and mission form our Strategic Intent for the next 5 years. This enables our organisation to remain agile, dynamic, and responsive to change, whether this change is known or unknown. In other words, the end goal remains clear, but we acknowledge that the journey to achieve it can take many twists and turns. It is essential that everyone is on board is flexible, and that we all arrive at our destination together.

In November 2021, we were delighted to win the Awarding Organisation of the Year at the annual Federation of Awarding Bodies (FAB) Awards to recognise our contribution to education and skills in the UK over the year. The award was a great achievement and testament to our team for their achievements over the year, including reduced environmental impact, creating new assessments, training Examiners on a new approach, developing additional educational opportunities and resources for learners and Learning Partners to impact on helping keep more people safe at work every day.

In June of this year, we became the winner of the Best International Implementation Award at the 2022 International e-Assessment Awards.

The detail lies in our strategy, tactics and overall plan and goals. At the heart of our Strategic Intent is to ensure agility, diversification, customer focus, and empowerment of our people. We want to continue to be a high-performing organisation, with improved productivity and effectiveness. We want to capitalise on our brand, innovate and be the market leader, while also growing and diversifying our market further.

This is an exciting time to join the Board of NEBOSH and have an impact on our growth, development, strategy, and goals, after a significant period of growth and transformation, ensuring we have the funds to invest further in delivering our Charity’s objects. However, there is further development and transformation to embark on as we continue delivery of our five-year Strategic Intent. As a Board, we work collaboratively with our high-performing Executive Team to encourage creativity, innovation, and pioneering impactful developments in the profession.

Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee

We are looking to appoint a new Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee. This person will be financially qualified with strong governance and commercial experience who can support, challenge, interpret and scrutinise while supporting other Trustees and working with our Chief Executive Officer and Director of Finance.

We expect the time commitment for our new Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee, to be a minimum of 12 days a year.

Trustee (Education/Assessment)

In addition to this appointment, we are looking to add skills to the existing Board which include experience in an awarding body or a regulated learning and assessment environment, who understands the development of regulated qualifications.

The time commitment for Trustees is expected to be circa 12 days per year and will include all of the above, including contact with the Chair and other Trustees outside of the main meetings.

About the Board

The Board meets 4 times a year in Leicestershire, and, subject to membership requirements, all Trustees will be given the opportunity to join one of our committees (Audit and Risk Committee or Remuneration & Nomination Committee), meeting up to an additional 4 times a year. The Board also meets for strategic away days and Board development days once a year.

All Board appointments are for a term of 3 years, and all Trustees are eligible to serve for a maximum of 2 terms.
