Do you believe that when students come together, they can shape the communities they are part of for the better? This is a fantastic opportunity for the next Chief Executive to deliver a new strategy as the SU sets about re-inventing for the 21st century, and help agree a bold set of inclusive values that are fit for a modern SU.
Our Students’ Union is the representative body of students at the University of Bath. We believe that when students come together, they can shape the communities they are part of for the better. Through our student leaders, elected representatives, staff and trustees, we grow and support communities of students as they provide opportunities for others and positively change the world around us.
We support a diverse range of activities, from helping students get their voice heard, providing advice, hosting student groups and offering a range of commercial events and venues, to ensure that students can have the transformative educational experience they deserve.
We enjoy an excellent relationship with our University partner and in recent years have modernised our infrastructure and developed a new cause-based strategy which will help us shape and evolve what we do in new and exciting ways. We have recently taken on two new additional venues which will allow us to provide more spaces on campus and in the city for students to socialise and enjoy extra-curricular activities, with dedicated spaces for art and community outreach as part of this.
Our new Chief Executive will pick up our new strategy as we set about re-inventing the Students’ Union for the 21st century, and help us agree a new bold set of inclusive values that are fit for a modern SU. We can then work towards delivering the ambitions set out in the plan.
Our ideal Chief Executive is someone with has high levels of emotional intelligence, who role models inclusive leadership and can thrive when working with multiple stakeholders to solve complex challenges.
We currently benefit from a good financial position but, like most charities, we could benefit from further diversifying our income streams and looking for more efficient ways to deliver our KPIs. It will be important that you have strong financial acumen and experience in income generation and leading sizeable budgets.
We are developing an action plan to help us deliver a structured approach to bringing together all equality, diversity and inclusion initiatives in one place; this includes us working towards Investors in Diversity accreditation. We strongly encourage any candidate who has a track record of demonstrating inclusive leadership to consider this opportunity, and especially welcome candidates from underrepresented communities to apply.

What we do:
The Students’ Union is the body of students at the University of Bath. We believe that when students come together, they can shape the communities they are part of for the better. Through our student leaders and elected representatives, we grow and support communities of students as they provide opportunities for others and change the world around us for the better.
Together we promote student interest and welfare, provide support and advice, represent the student community with the University and others, and provide social, cultural, sporting and recreational activities.
How we do this is through student-led:
Voice – helping students stand up, speak up and make their voice heard,
Experiences – making friends and memories that last a lifetime,
Groups – broadening horizons with our communities of students,
Support – providing advice and support on student life,
Development – developing the skills students need to lead and change.
Staff, Students and Alumni – On Friday we’re hosting a virtual poetry night for Black History Month.
