  • Salary: £80,000 – £90,000

Who we are

Clear Voice is an award-winning social enterprise providing language services to a wide range of clients across the charity, business and public sectors. It is the trading name of Migrant Help Trading Ltd, a wholly-owned trading subsidiary of national charity Migrant Help. Many of our clients work with vulnerable adults and children and we are dedicated to ensuring we help them to communicate and get the support they need.

100% of our profits are donated to Migrant Help, our parent charity, which supports the victims of displacement and exploitation.

We have seen exponential growth over recent years, growing from a relatively modest operation to become one of the leading language services providers in the UK. The business is financially strong, and the in-house team is supported by a shared service model with the parent charity.

As a result of a strategic review of the existing operations and the potential future portfolio of products and services, an interim CEO was appointed to develop the future vision of the organisation and initiate and implement the next phase of growth and development.

About the role

Following the successful completion of this activity, the board is seeking to appoint a permanent CEO to motivate, lead and drive a thriving organisation. This offers the opportunity to work alongside a talented board and team to further shape and implement strategic and operational developments in line with the business strategy. The role will also drive the continued evolution of the operating relationship with our parent charity, Migrant Help.

This is an opportunity to help us write our next chapter, build on and develop our services, continue to scale our operation and increase our social impact.

We are looking for an energetic and commercially astute leader, experienced in leading organisations through rapid growth and strategic development. Financially literate and experienced in developing business cases for new products and services, you will also have strong governance credentials and be adept at leading teams through change, building effective operating processes and sustaining a strong, people-focused culture.

There is huge scope to build on the success of Clear Voice to date. We expect, alongside your commercial and leadership know-how, you’ll share our mission of breaking down language barriers and generating profits that help support displaced and exploited people.

Dear Candidate,

I am delighted by your interest in being our new CEO.

This is an immensely exciting time for our fast-growing, dynamic social enterprise. The income we generate through our interpreting services has more than doubled in the past couple of years, and our team has tripled in size.

We have been recognised through numerous awards, including the NatWest SE100 Social Business Champion Award in 2022. We have also expanded our ‘InPower’ initiative which provides access to training and enables for refuges to attain professional qualifications in interpreting. Most importantly, these efforts have been able to deliver more than £1.8 million in the last year alone to our parent charity Migrant Help.

However, our ambition does not stop here.  We have the market profile, platform and resources to take the enterprise to the next level. Our new strategy will see us expand and grow the existing core business in the language sector and develop new revenue streams that diversify our product and service offer.

As we move forward, we are seeking an entrepreneurially minded leader who can actively guide the next stage of our development and ensure the core business continues to thrive. This includes working with the management teams and boards of both the business and parent charity to further evolve the operating model and key relationships.

I just wanted to add a few words to try and capture what it I has been like working with this organisation, and hopefully to encourage you to throw your hat in the ring.

The first thing to say is that this is a fantastic opportunity to further shape a business that has grown rapidly and continues to thrive. A number of exciting areas of strategic development and diversification are currently being explored, and investment funding is available to take forward the resulting business cases. Meanwhile, we have increased our focus on the quality assurance of our core interpreting services, and are recognised by our customers and freelance interpreters as a company that wants to deliver both a great service and a positive social impact.

All this is made possible by the brilliant Clear Voice team, who are ambitious for the business and keen to grow with it. The successful candidate  will be very lucky to lead and support this energetic and lively team!

About Clear Voice

Migrant Help Trading Ltd is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Migrant Help. It is a social enterprise and trades as Clear Voice Interpreting Services. It provides professional language services, specialising in on-demand telephone, face-to-face and video interpreting.

100% of our profits are donated to our parent charity, Migrant Help, to support their work with the victims of displacement and exploitation. Last year, our services and financial support helped Migrant Help to support more asylum seekers, refugees and survivor of trafficking than ever before, reaching over 57,000 clients.

Our interpreting services cover 200+lanaguages 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year and our face-to-face bookings are available across the UK in over 90 languages.

We provide services to a wide range of clients including charities, businesses and the public sector. Many of our clients work with vulnerable children and adults, and we are committed to ensuring we help them to communicate and get the support they need.

Clear Voice has seen exponential growth over recent years and is now established as one of the leading language service providers in the UK. Our team has also grown substantially over the past two years, now totalling 40 full-time staff and a network of over 1000 freelance interpreters.

We have won many awards as an organisation, most recently the NatWest SE100 Social Business Champion Award in 2022. In addition, last year members of the team were shortlisted on the WISE100 Awards, recognising the most inspiring and influential women in social enterprise, impact investment and mission-driven businesses.

Our focus on creating social impact is unique in the language services sector. Aside from our support for Migrant Help, our InPower Project supports refugees to find work as interpreters. And we believe our work generates a wider, positive social impact:  we enable businesses to keep their staff informed, education institutions to make their students feel welcome, legal practices to help their customers get justice, medical staff to communicate with patients, and charities to have a greater impact. By providing language services, we are proud to be part of helping our customers address inequalities and overcome challenges.
