Board Directors (up to 4) Jerusalem Productions Ltd

Jerusalem Productions is a media production company working to increase understanding and knowledge of the Christian religion and its values via broadcast and social media. It is seeking up to 4 new Directors to join its Board. If you have digital content expertise and are passionate about sharing the Christian story with 18-34 year-olds, please get in touch with us to learn more about this opportunity.

  • Location: Flexible within the UK (most meetings are hybrid with main office in Victoria, London)
  • Salary: Voluntary (with scope to be appointed as Executive Producer on particular productions and remunerated at a set day rate)
  • Closing date: 9 a.m. Friday 26th August 2022

About the role

Jerusalem Productions Ltd (JPL) is looking for people with experience in digital content for 18–34-year-olds and a passion for sharing the Christian story in surprising and compelling ways to join their Board of Directors. This is an exciting opportunity to join an experienced Board of media professionals, to shape the strategy for the next phase and to help a young creative team deliver their objectives and grow their impact as a small production company.

Directors also act as advisors to The Jerusalem Trust trustees regarding Christian media projects, and from time to time, consider external funding proposals for co-productions that fit the Trust or JPL priorities.

Directors should be willing to prepare for and attend hybrid board meetings three times a year (each two hours) and regular commissioning meetings (every 8-10 weeks, to be agreed together) to approve and authorise budget for the Four8 staff team’s development slate. A Director can also be appointed as an Executive Producer on Four8 productions as appropriate, which will include remuneration at a set day rate for agreed tasks during pre-production, production, and post-production phases.

What makes you a good director?

  • A commitment to JPL and its mission
  • A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort
  • Strategic vision: good, independent judgement and a willingness to speak your mind; an ability to think creatively
  • An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities, and liabilities of directors of a private limited company wholly owned by a charitable trust
  • An ability to work effectively as a member of a team

Directors are appointed on terms of three years and retiring directors are eligible for renewal.

You do not need previous experience of serving on a Board in order to apply. We welcome applications from first-time Board Directors.

Who we are looking for

We would love to hear from candidates with expertise in some of these areas:

  • Demonstrable understanding of the minds of 18-34 year olds: what, why, and how they consume media; how they learn, share, and engage in entertainment and storytelling
  • Social media platforms (Insta, FB, TikTok, YouTube, etc), the analysis of data, and how to interpret that for an ongoing development slate
  • Editorial experience, particularly with regard to compliance and broadcasting guidelines, and with sharp theological insights and nuances
  • Diversity and inclusion in a media or broadcast setting
  • Storytellers that can spot surprising and compelling ways of retelling the Jesus story to 18-34-year-olds and help the staff team develop
  • Media safeguarding practices, legal and IP issues

Welcome

Jerusalem Productions Ltd (JPL) was established in 1990 as a media production company, working to increase understanding and knowledge of the Christian religion and its values via the broadcast media. For nearly 30 years JPL invested in programmes for UK mainstream broadcast and hosted the Jerusalem Awards – an annual Radio and Digital Media Awards event. In 2018, directors took the decision to create content and broadcast directly to the consumer under the brand, Four8 Media, and you join us in an exciting phase after three years of experimenting with new platforms reaching a younger audience.

As a Director of JPL, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the ongoing strategy of the company, bringing your experience of social media and digital content to the Board’s regular commissioning meetings. The role offers a wonderful opportunity to combine your passion for sharing the Christian story with your understanding of our diverse audience of 18-34 year olds, to help shape content that is surprising and compelling. Along with your fellow directors, you will also have the possibility of executive producing relevant Four8 content, and will serve as an advisor to the trustees of the Jerusalem Trust – the funding body of JPL.

You will be joining a small but dedicated Board of industry professionals with many years of experience in radio, factual and news TV, and theatre. The staff team is young and creative, and we place high value on supporting crew and talent from diverse backgrounds, as can be seen by our current portfolio.

We are excited for what we can achieve over the next few years and look forward to welcoming new voices with fresh insights into our work.
