Each is chaired by a Board member and includes a member appointed from the Local Institutes National Forum (LINF); all committee members are non-executive appointments.

The Board delegates responsibility for the day-to-day management of the CII to the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) of the Institute, which is headed by the Chief Executive Office

About the Committees.

Education and Learning Committee (ELC)

This committee oversees CII activity in respect of building the knowledge base of the profession. Welcome from the Independent Chair.

I am delighted that you are interested in joining the CII’s Board.

The CII is the professional body dedicated to building public trust in the insurance and personal finance profession. Our strapline Standards. Professionalism. Trust. embodies our commitment to driving confidence in the power of professional standards: competence, integrity, and care for the customer.

The CII Board is responsible for leading and developing the strategic direction of the CII and promoting through the strategy the CII’s purpose to “secure and justify the confidence of the public” as required by our Royal Charter, granted by King George V in 1912.

These are key roles, for which we are seeking to appoint experienced Non Executive Directors. The ideal candidates will

have held a non-executive director role in a large and complex organisation and have experience of chairing a non-executive board or committee with a remit that has relevance to the role for which you are applying.

Both roles will add value in their capacity as Members of the Board and overseeing the Committee to which they are appointed as Chair. Our Audit and Risk Committee ensures the Institute operates effective processes of financial reporting and control and of risk management, so we are equipped to carry out our governance responsibilities, and our Education and Learning Committee oversees activity in respect of building the knowledge base of the profession on behalf of the Board.

Although we are open to which sector you may have gained your experience in, for the Audit and Risk Committee, our preference would be for someone who is financially qualified. For the Education and Learning Committee, we are seeking to appoint an independent Chair who has either a pedagogical understanding or assessment and qualification design alongside considerable senior leadership and non-executive experience to support our work.

You will appreciate the duties of a board member as distinct from those of a member of the executive and be capable of providing both support and constructive challenge to Board and Committee colleagues as well as the CII’s Executive. You have the opportunity to join the CII at an important time, as we enter year two of our 5-year strategic plan which sets out our six strategic themes of excellent member experience; highest professional standards; sector thought leadership; world-class learning; digital first; and sustainable institute. We, therefore, welcome your demonstration of the relevance of your experience in one of these six themes.

I hope you find the information of interest and look forward to receiving your application.

Yours faithfully,

Dr Helen Phillips
Independent Chair
