Department for Education FE Governor Recruitment Service

Can you ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction for colleges and sixth form colleges? Become an education governor.

We are thrilled to be working alongside the Department of Education to recruit 137 governors by the end of the 2025 academic year.

Would you like to positively impact your community by becoming a further education governor for colleges across England?

Who are further education governors?

Further Education governors come from all backgrounds and sectors with either professional or lived experience that can help the board to make their decisions. A passion for education and future generations is a must, but you don’t need to have any experience in the education sector to make a difference.

Being a further education governor or trustee is a rewarding and fulfilling venture for any of us. You don’t need to be a Chief Executive, a senior leader or even an educationalist to join the ever-growing pool of people who regularly attend board and committee meetings to influence and impact the quality of education delivered by our schools, sixth forms, further education colleges and universities. Click here to read more about the rewards of becoming a further education governor.

As a further education governor, you will draw on the professional experience of your working career and your own life experiences to support and challenge the strategic direction of the organisation. You will reflect on the lessons that you have learnt through education, work and life to ask questions and understand how decisions being made on an operational level will and could impact the students and their potential for achievement.

Please click on the colleges below to access the job specs and person specifications, as well as a little bit about the role. Once you have found a college you are interested in, please fill out the form at the bottom of this page. Alternatively, if you would like to join our network of interested candidates for all education governance roles.

We share a duty to protect children and young people from harm and therefore our recruitment team has undertaken safer recruitment training.

We will ensure safer recruitment practices in every stage of the recruitment process, in line with the latest KCSIE guidance, and maintain open and transparent communication that will enable us to help our clients find the most valuable people for their schools, colleges, and charities.
