University of York Students’ Union, Head of Student Opportunities

Salary circa £35,000 + Benefits University of York Students’ Union (YUSU) is run for, with, and by, the 17,500 students at the University of York. We’re a charity that helps students share ideas, create change, gain new skills and access help and support while at University.   We’re also a major success story having grown income from £800k to £5.5m over the last five years, increased participation and grown our profile on and off campus.  Our success mirrors that of York University, a Russell Group institution with ambitious plans and aspirations to grow the student population, particularly focusing on attracting new international and PhD students.   There are also major infrastructure developments that will continue to drive growth in both student numbers and student diversity. YUSU currently has approximately 50 career staff and up to 150 student staff at peak times of the year.  In order to deliver better services and support for students we have restructured the staff team and created a range of new senior management roles. Chief Executive, Prospect Housing

Salary £60k-£65k + benefits Based in Horley, near Gatwick Prospect Housing and Support Services (Prospect) supports vulnerable people with learning and physical disabilities and mental health problems to live more independently, realise their potential and to exercise choice and control over their lives.  Prospect achieves this through residential care homes, independent living flats, outreach services and projects primarily in East Surrey. Income is now around £9m, with around 90% of that currently received from local government.  There are  great opportunities to expand existing services into new geography as well as create new and modern services, particularly in the areas of transient services for young people, and supported, semi and independent living services.   Prospect has around  120 staff currently. Prospect’s recent challenges have been a real catalyst for change. University of Nottingham Students’ Union, External Trustee

At the University of Nottingham Students’ Union (UoNSU), our students lie right at the heart of what we do. The Union not only represents and supports students throughout their time at university, but we help them to enjoy themselves, as well as build skills and experience, by offering a diverse range of events, sports clubs, societies and activities. Our Student Advice Centre helps students with concerns about academic, legal, financial and personal problems and we finance societies, sports, a magazine, a theatre company, and even radio and TV stations. We currently have around 34,000 members and our student-elected Officers act as figureheads for the diverse areas of student life, from education and welfare to sports and activities. In our retail outlets and across the Union we employ over two hundred staff, around half of which are students. In 2010 we attained charitable status, and as a charitable organisation we have a Board of Trustees who oversee the decisions to ensure that we are organised effectively and efficiently and most importantly accountable for what we do and how we spend our income. Oxfam, Senior Manager – Major Gifts (EDP Lead)

Location: London (Oxford 1 day per week) Salary: £45,000 – £47,180 + London weighting up to £3,350 It takes time and energy to win the fight against poverty. It also takes a huge amount of financial support. We depend on high value fundraising to help fund our emergency, development and campaigning work and we need specific expertise in major donor fundraising to grow our income further over the coming years. Be challenged Oxfam believes that sustainable economic development is central to eradicating extreme poverty. The Enterprise Development Programme (EDP) is a flagship programme which aims to create sustainable businesses in remote rural locations that will transform the lives of thousands of farmers and their communities.
