University of Leicester Students’ Union, External/Lay Trustee

Unremunerated University of Leicester Students’ Union is a modern and vibrant organisation supporting over 22,000 student members who study at one of the top 20 ranked universities in the UK. It employs 300 people, has a turnover of £5m and provides a range of services and opportunities such as events, clubs & societies, volunteering, RAG and welfare. It also manages a range of commercial services which include a live music venue, catering facilities, cafes, bars, retail outlets and a Starbucks, which together enable their students’ time at university to be the best it can be; in fact they want their members’ experience to be exceptional. A charity which also has a solely owned subsidiary company, the University of Leicester Students’ Union Trading Limited,  the Union is now looking to attract a number of External trustees to its board who can support its next phase of development. Grandparents Plus, Chief Executive

Salary £65,000, London  Grandparents Plus is well-established as the national charity championing grandparents and the wider family’s role in looking after children, especially when they take on the caring role in difficult family circumstances. We do this because we want to make children’s lives better. We provide support and advice for kinship carers (i.e. grandparents and other relatives who look after children because they cannot live with their parents), working alongside local authorities and other professional groups involved with family and children’s services.  Our research and policy work is well respected and influential with national and local policymakers, helping to get kinship carers the recognition they deserve. However there is much more to do to ensure that the role of the country’s 14 million grandparents, particularly in relation to caring for children, is better recognised and supported. Reading University Students’ Union, Trustee x 2 (Finance and Marketing)

Reading University Students’ Union Trustee x 2 (Finance and Marketing) Reading University Students’ Union (RUSU) represents the views of over 18,000 students on four campuses and employs 76 permanent staff.  RUSU consistently achieves a score of over 80% in the National Student Survey which places it in the top 10 students’ unions in the country and was recently ranked 6th in the Times Higher Education 2015 Student Experience Survey. We have over 160 student groups, societies, sports clubs and volunteer groups including a vibrant and growing student media. More and more students are getting involved in the Union every year and we are always looking for new and original ways to engage with students. Elections are undertaken annually by the students, to elect five full time Student Officers and two Student Trustees with a further two Student Trustees appointed to serve on the Board. The Trustee Board is made up of these students and the Constitution provides for up to four appointed External Trustees. Salary circa £48,000 Full-time Location: Flexible, but with some presence in Nottingham/London Marriage Care specialises in helping couples – married or not – build and sustain strong, fulfilling, healthy relationships, and in providing support in times of relationship difficulty. Because better relationships make for better lives, more stable families and a stronger society. We are the largest faith-based provider of relationship support services in the UK working through our 53 Centres and 800 professionally trained and accredited volunteers. We provide marriage and relationship information, education and counselling support to thousands of people each year and have been doing so for nearly 70 years, building up a wealth of experience of how relationships survive and thrive. During 2013/14 alone, over 71,500 people accessed information about marriage and relationships from Marriage Care. The organisation has 8,500 students of the University of Aberystwyth as its members, from which it elects people to lead it every year.  These elected Officers are supported by a permanent professional staff team and External Trustees.
