University of Nottingham Students’ Union, External Trustee

At the University of Nottingham Students’ Union (UoNSU), our students lie right at the heart of what we do. The Union not only represents and supports students throughout their time at university, but we help them to enjoy themselves, as well as build skills and experience, by offering a diverse range of events, sports clubs, societies and activities. Our Student Advice Centre helps students with concerns about academic, legal, financial and personal problems and we finance societies, sports, a magazine, a theatre company, and even radio and TV stations. We currently have around 34,000 members and our student-elected Officers act as figureheads for the diverse areas of student life, from education and welfare to sports and activities. In our retail outlets and across the Union we employ over two hundred staff, around half of which are students. In 2010 we attained charitable status, and as a charitable organisation we have a Board of Trustees who oversee the decisions to ensure that we are organised effectively and efficiently and most importantly accountable for what we do and how we spend our income.
