Beds Students’ Union, Head of Membership Services and Engagement

Up to £40,000 Luton Beds Students’ Union is a student-led organisation that represents a diverse student body of 22,000 students over 6 campuses. It is a registered charity whose purpose is to enrich student life at the University of Bedfordshire. It sits at the heart of the student experience, providing a wide range of services and activities which include representation, welfare, volunteering, clubs and societies, and commercial outlets.  The Union has a good relationship with the University of Bedfordshire which has a core mission to widen participation in Higher Education and has invested significantly in the student experience. This has seen them being voted #1 for “Improving the student experience” in the National Student Survey. The Union is now looking to appoint a new senior management team, led by a new Chief Executive. The Head of Membership Services and Engagement will play a vital part in helping shape a very exciting future. Association for Project Safety, Chief Executive

Salary: £70,000 to £80,000, plus benefits  Location: Office based in Edinburgh (we will consider people based in other locations) The Association for Project Safety (APS) is shaping and sharing good practice in design and construction health and safety risk management. The work of APS plays a vital role in health and safety design risk management in construction and strives to continuously improve and promote professional practice in the built environment. Although relatively small with around 5,500 members and nine staff based in Edinburgh, we work across the UK and have aspirations to grow internationally.  The potential for the organisation is huge and recent regulatory changes relating to construction design and management presents interesting opportunities and challenges. SULETS, Head of Operations

Location: Leicester Salary: £40-50K          SULETS is an educational charity established by De Montfort University and Leicester Students’ Unions.  Our mission is to raise housing standards and to support our students’ accommodation needs.  We provide high quality student accommodation to students studying at the two Universities.  Currently we supply over 2300 bed spaces through private sector lettings and halls of residence owned by one of the UK’s major accommodation suppliers. We have ambitious expansion plans for the future and this year we have experienced significant growth which has doubled the size of the business. To support this expansion we are looking for a proactive and can-do Head of Operations who as part of the senior management team will be responsible for the effective running of the day to day operations and contribute to strategic developments. NUS SU Charitable Services Board, External Trustee

Unremunerated position, but reasonable expenses will be paid The National Union of Students (NUS) is a voluntary membership organisation which makes a real difference to the lives of students and its member students’ unions.  We are a confederation of 600 students’ unions, amounting to more than 95 percent of all higher and further education unions in the UK. Through our member students’ unions, we represent the interests of more than seven million students. One of the key strands of our work is Membership and Union Development, delivered through NUS SU Charitable Services.  This is our hub for the operational and strategic development of students’ unions, focusing on improving students’ unions’ organisational quality, supporting the development of union staff and officers and helping unions to ensure impact and sustainability. Within Charitable Services we have been good at creating new services, but less good at de-prioritising others, and now need to assess our portfolio to ensure that our services are strategically relevant and of consistently high quality. We are currently mainly funded by the commercial revenue derived from NUS Services and face the challenge of developing new sustainable funding sources, including through commercialising what we offer.
