Head of Partnerships and Projects, National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ)
Location: Newport, Essex – with flexible working considered
Salary: c£70,000, depending on experience, plus benefits

The National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) exists to help create a better society. We provide a world-class education and training system that develops current and future journalists from all walks of life for the demands of a fast-changing multimedia industry. We are entering an exciting new chapter and looking to appoint a Head of Partnerships and Projects to help take the charity to the next stage of its development.
Reporting to the Chief Executive you’ll secure, lead and implement high profile and successful £multimillion charitable initiatives and projects, generate income and manage an annual budget for special projects. As a new role, the successful person will develop new and existing relationships with the media and other organisations and collaborate with the charity’s stakeholders and strategic partners.
You’ll ideally have a detailed understanding of the structure of the media industry, digital developments and the opportunities and challenges it faces. You might have come from a senior editorial and/or commercial backgrounds and you’ll definitely be a senior level high-calibre communicator, collaborator and team player with commercial acumen in bucketloads.
You need to be able to think strategically as well as being adept at dealing with the detail – so strong management, analytical and administration skills are all important. You should have a passion for journalism and a positive commitment to helping sustain its future. Your track record in large scale projects should speak for itself. You will need to innovate, instigate and manage change, people and large-scale projects, think strategically, multi-task, plan, prioritise, audit, evaluate, bid, budget and work to strict deadlines.
While this job does require UK travel, we have a dedicated team of staff based in a converted granary in the lovely North Essex village of Newport, only 30 seconds walk from the Newport train station, and just one hour by train to London Liverpool Street.
