De Montfort University Students’ Union (DSU) is a £2m charity in the heart of Leicester that serves as the voice of all 27,000 students at De Montfort University. DSU operates a range of services that enable students to get the most of from their time at university such as dynamic range of clubs and societies that we support and venues that we run on behalf of students. We also support students along their journey at university by providing advice and representing their voices.
Why does our work matter?
We exist to support and empower students. We operate in one of the most diverse cities in the UK and support students who come have come every conceivable walk of life. We are proud that of the transformative power that De Montfort can provide students and we want to do everything we can to help them get their most from their university experience. By joining our board, you will have the opportunity to positively affect the experience of 27,000 amazing people.
What are the Challenges?
The last few years have been a challenging time for us, as we have undertaken an external review and changed our CEO and governance structures. We have risen to every challenge that we have faced, overcome them and emerged stronger, more resilient and determined. We are now excited about planning for the future, and by joining our board now you will have significant opportunity to help us shape the types of work and support we will deliver over the coming years.
Your background and experience
To help us build a union that can support future students most effectively we need people who can bring commercial experience, particularly in seeking new forms of income and to help us to achieve the best possible returns from our current resources. More importantly, we need you to be committed and willing to contribute constructively to the range of discussions that occur at our board.
We are open minded about the background you might have, however, commercial experience and expertise in areas such as licenced trade, events, venue management, hospitality and other commercial services would be highly desirable. Prior board expertise is not required for Trustee candidates but would be helpful for prospective Chair candidates.
If you think you could support our journey, we would love to hear from you!
