Active Prospects – Director of Business Development

Director of Business Development
Active Prospects
Surrey
£60,000 + £10,000 PRP

At Active Prospects we passionately believe that everyone should have the opportunity for a full and aspiring life, and people with learning disabilities, autism, acquired brain injury, and mental health needs should equally have these chances and be offered choice and control in their lives.

We were established in 1989 specifically to support people moving out of long-stay NHS institutions into the community and enable people with learning disabilities, mental and physical health needs to live full and aspiring lives. We are a Community Benefit Society with charitable status, and a Social Enterprise with a strong portfolio of properties, largely owned but also some rented in partnership with housing associations and private landlords.

As Surrey’s key provider of services for people with complex needs, we offer high-quality services and deliver outstanding results. We are recognised for placing co-production at the heart of everything we do, and have a motivated team, energised by the work we do.

We want to build on our successes by growing by a further 50% in the next three years. Growth will come from building new accommodation, increasing our housing stock, new business wins from tendering as well as securing grants for projects aimed at better supporting people in communities. We want to further our position as a leading organisation known for delivering innovative, flexible and responsive care and achieving excellent outcomes for our people and communities.

We will focus on profitable growth, further developing a mixed portfolio of business, and extending our property and service offers. We also want to develop innovation in person centred thinking, increasing the use of assistive technology, and to reshape our mental health services to focus on recovery, social engagement and social activities. Additionally, we are working to enhance our community offer with employment, social enterprise, heath, wellbeing and social activities.

To support us in achieving our ambitions the Director of Business Development will work proactively with the Board, CEO and executive colleagues to lead on building new strategic relationships, nurturing those that we have, and strongly positioning our offer to commissioners, funders and partners.

You will directly oversee the development of tender submissions, bids and other applications for funds or contracts. The role directly manages a Business Development Manager and a Marketing Manager who look after a team of around 20 people, and whilst there is good operational support and robust resources available, the role will be hands-on at times. You will also need to have strong planning skills to be able to appraise new projects and develop implementation plans for new services and contracts.

We are looking for somebody with exceptional written and verbal communications skills so that you can articulate our offer effectively. You will also possess a strong track record of winning tenders and new business, ideally within a health and social care context.

Active Prospects wants somebody with ambition, passion and motivation to deliver more for the people and communities who need our support. You will need to be able to balance our drive for growth and your commercial acumen with strong social values and an aspiration to develop the right kind of business and build long-term sustainable relationships with funders, partners and commissioners.
